Stylish waterproof coat

My DS starts school in September so I’m on the hunt for a waterproof coat that’s sturdy enough to keep me dry on the school run but also smart enough for heading to the office straight after.
Ideally with a hood.
Im a UK 16-18, big bust. Budget around £100.
I’d usually go for black, deep green or maybe a darker camel colour.
Thank you ☺️

M&S coats are good value and I also recommend Barbour -last forever and you can get them rewaxed.

I always get a waterproof coat from eBay ,my favourite make is regatta.

madaboutpurple · 25/08/2025 12:14

I have just looked on eBay for protected species coats and there are a lot available, they look smart as well.

Mardyybum · 25/08/2025 16:56

@thatsnothtepoint thanks, I had a beautiful Barbour a few years ago. It didn’t have a hood though, I’ll look on their website to see what options are available.

@PInkyStarfish thank you. I think that particular one is a bit casual but it does look great for dog walks etc!

Stutterheim. Beautiful. Something like these stutterheim.com/en-gb/women/jackets/long-raincoats

Can heartily recommend Protected Species . Not really warm enough for full winter but from March - November I don’t have anything else. Completely waterproof and very durable.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 25/08/2025 18:31

Another vote here for protected species.

I love my Protected Species City Walker. I’ve had it 5 years and it still looks brand new and I regularly get complimented on it! I am tempted to buy one of the other styles…

Not to derail, but how does it fit around the upper arms? I’m also looking for a new waterproof jacket.
i have a gorgeous dark green one form sweaty betty a few years ago, but I find it too tight and constricting around the upper arms, especially when cycling, which is annoying …

BadgerFace · 25/08/2025 19:25

I think it is quite roomy. The City Walker is a boxy design so not tight. But I haven’t tried any exercise in it!

WorriedRelative · 25/08/2025 21:22

Seasalt coats are good, not high fashion but not awful just very warm and waterproof

thatsnothtepoint · 27/08/2025 03:20

@Mardyybum Came back on to say that I was in TKMaxx yesterday and they have some amazing waterproof coats with hoods, in navy and black at under £100.

@Freda69 do you mean the waxed Barbours or their "waterproof" raincoats? I really want a long lasting waterproof and would love a waxed Barbour but not sure if it would be a waste of money as in the end they might not really be waterproof?

Does anyone else know?
