Silver dress

Gettingbysomehow · 24/08/2025 20:07

I saw this dress in silver in Fatface today and totally fell in love with it but Im 63 and I thought when will I ever wear this Im not a big occasion person Im more into camping and pub meet ups.
So they had a lovely silver skirt which is gorgeous and not so over the top and which I could wear for an evening out.
Any ideas how I could style the skirt so it looks quirky casual rather than dressy? Im quite slim and have waist length hair so I look young for my age and live in Glastonbury where anything goes.

I would wear the skirt in winter with a lovely mohair or alpaca cardi or big sloppy sweater. I think the dress is too much ! They do say " buy the outfit and create the event " 😊

Lifeinthepit · 24/08/2025 20:16

I really like that dress....better than the skirt. You could wear it to loads of occasions.

Florally · 24/08/2025 20:55

I quite like it for Christmas Day :)

Piffle11 · 24/08/2025 21:06

I think @jamnpancakes has the right idea!

i’ve seen a lot of those silky/satin skirts with slouchy sweaters and they look great… In fact, if you look up slouchy sweater silk skirt, it will give you a few ideas!! I think it will work really well with this skirt.

Arlanymor · 24/08/2025 21:11

Ooh I'm coming to stay in Glastonbury for four nights from Friday so I will definitely be going to FatFace as those are both gorgeous. Age is nothing, ignore that - I am 46 and I couldn't give a monkeys what people think about my style as long as I like it. I would go for the dress in silver as it's essentially the skirt with a matching top, but as @jamnpancakes says - wear it in the autumn with a slouchy sweater and metallic trainers - you will look amazing! Perfect for the pub. Go for it! (Do they have it in a 12 for me?!)

That's a great outfit idea.

That dress is gorgeous.

EscapadeVelocity · 24/08/2025 23:48

I think you’re being a wee bit feeble! I’m in my early 60s and would happily put on a similar dress in October and not take it off until January 1st. Would be gorgeous under a big tweed coat for absolutely anything; seeing friends, concerts, theatre, lunches and dinners, etc. Throw a knitted tank top over it and add knee high boots - work dress, or taking the young to a pantomime, drinks at the pub …

As for the skirt - I had one like that from Zara bought days before the first lockdown. Wore it for years - exactly like a pair of jeans. It went with everything - shirts, jumpers, t shirts; tucked in or hanging over. Suited every type of footwear … Very comfortable to travel in on planes and trains, looked cool with a jacket at a conference but could equally sit in a field till dawn.

Honestly don’t understand your hesitancy!

FattyMcFattyArse · 25/08/2025 00:45

both the dress and skirt are gorgeous!

You could dress them down with ankle boots and a jumper or a graphic t-shirt with the skirt.

And bargains at that price too.

GarlicLitre · 25/08/2025 00:55

I don't like the dress but that's personal. I do like the short metallic dresses, and agree they're all a bargain! Also agreeing with PPs about the skirt - you can wear that with anything, dressed down or up, and it'll look great. Not even 'quirky' or 'out there' ... unless you don't live in 21st-century Glastonbury, but 1970s Surbiton.

At 63 you're a little late for your dramatic re-entrance into society as a woman whose fucks have all been given 😄 Go shiny, and as bright as you like! Have fun!

Floisme · 25/08/2025 08:30

As gently as I can, although there's really no gentle way of saying it, at 63 what exactly are you waiting for?

That said, I prefer the skirt. I think I would overheat in the dress and the skirt is much more versatile. Lots of great suggestions already on how to dress it down with knitwear etc so I'll just add that, if the mood strikes, and bearing in mind where you live, you could instead go for double metallic or team it with velvet or fake fur, lots of bling and fairy wings. (Please don't tell me too-cool-to-dress-up fever has spread to Glastonbury - I don't think I could take it.)

usernameinserthere · 25/08/2025 08:34

I just bought a lot of things for autumn including the dress. Haven’t shopped at Fat Face before but let see how it turns up. Thank you!

SoScarletItWas · 25/08/2025 08:37

I have a silver skirt! As PP said, it goes with everything. Nice fine knit jumper in either grey or pink or navy. Graphic t-shirt/band t-shirt for the pub or casual lunch. Slouchy off shoulder jumper for dinner. Silk vest for posh - it took me to a wedding like that.

I do agree that if the frock makes your heart sing then buy it.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/08/2025 08:53

I bought both 😁thanks for your encouragement.

Enjoy! We're having a long weekend with my godgoblins - 18 and 16 - if we don't end up at Clarks Village I will be supremely shocked! Ooh and I just found this - although I am more of a silver person than a gold person, I love me a good jumpsuit! https://www.fatface.com/style/su371992/e50603#e50603

I dont understand the dress is only £35, so even if you didnt wear again what difference would it make. Its cheap as chips if you really like it!

Totally agree. And it's so cheap, who cares if you wear it once a year?

Edited to say I'd wear it for school at that price.

EscapadeVelocity · 25/08/2025 13:49

To be fair the OP has already bought both dress and skirt!

@Gettingbysomehow this morning I’ve been idly browsing

Bosie Knitwear

Margaret Howell

Plümo

and there’s scarcely a knitted or tailored thing that wouldn’t look gorgeous with your new wardrobe additions. Certainly the fluffier and crunchier the better - but there are honestly gazillions of layering options open to you, from the sober to the wild.

MagicMagpie · 25/08/2025 18:23

All these silver and gold outfits are gorgeous! I love them all. It’s making me go a bit Christmassy in the middle of this heatwave….

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/08/2025 18:32

I don’t like the dress but used to have a very similar skirt. As others have said, it can potentially work with lots of things:
Converse and a fitted T-shirt
black turtleneck jumper
fine knit v neck jumper
I like the band T-shirt suggestion too.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/08/2025 18:46

Dress. Denim Jacket. Boots. Everywhere.

I am SERIOUSLY tempted myself!
