Help! School event next week

Could you offer your best advice to help me find something smart for a school event next week? I am size 20, and currently ill with covid, so need to buy online. Any suggestions please?

How formal or informal is the event?

hotterthanthedesert · 24/08/2025 17:31

It's a day event - but I'm meeting people for the first time.

What kind of event? Outside/inside - what colours do you like to wear? Do you have a budget?

hotterthanthedesert · 24/08/2025 18:02

I don't have a particular budget in mind - maybe £200? It's a welcome event, meet other parents, have lunch etc Sure there will a bit of schlepping about the site. I often wear shades of blue - but quite fond of dark green as well. Not averse to a pop of colour here and there though?

Are you a parent or teacher? Is it a super fancy school?

At school events I’ve attended as a parent people have worn everything- sportswear, workwear, jeans and a hoodie.

What about something like this - is this anywhere near the mark for what you like to wear?

www.scarlettandjo.com/collections/isabelle-collection/products/isabelle-dark-green-cream-float-sleeve-maxi-dress?variant=55958586294654

Let me know if it's anywhere near or not and I'll refine my search! :-)

Those are pretty good!! I would have to stress about what shoes to wear/buy, but they are a good start - thank you!

Hi OP
I would go for separates - a fluid shirt or blouse which won’t crease (so not linen or all cotton) with an open neck. A jacket or shawl you can take off and comfortable shoes

The room will be too hot! All those parents and marching about. They will bang up the heating or there won’t be any air flow

so definitely layer and no high necks!

(can you tell I speak from experience)

this shirt from John Lewis with gold or silver necklace(s) would look clean and striking - with a plain skirt or trousers (no one will focus on the bottom half)
