Summer Funeral Wear

I'd really appreciate some pointers on what to wear for a dear friend's funeral at the beginning of September.

I attended a funeral around the same time a couple of years ago and it was a beautiful day for a send-off,but sweltering!I think I'm just after a dress that's not too severe -looking,and I'm wavering between navy or black. It would have to be below the knee or midi length I'm a Size 16 and prefer to avoid button-down bodices because of my bust!

Just some ideas that would be cool, comfortable and not too gloomy or formal.Maybe I could get away with a little bit of colour or a print fabric?
Many,many thanks in anticipation!❤️

Have you been given any indication of what your friend's family would prefer? I went to a friend's funeral on a very hot day this summer, but we were told very clearly that his wife preferred us not to dress in dark, formal clothes and we should just wear comfortable, summery, smart-casual clothes, so we just dressed as if we were going out for a summer lunch and ignored the fact it was a funeral.

Otherwise, if you think it will be warm, I suggest a midi length, loosish black or navy linen dress with short sleeves. There seem to be quite a few of those about at the moment.

Someone recommended this dress on another thread yesterday, and it seems to me a good choice for a friend’s funeral - where one might prefer not to wear anything too … gloomy. It will work if it is a hot day (though that currently seems unlikely) and you can throw a jacket over your shoulders if the weather is cooler. And it isn’t a huge investment so doesn’t need too much thinking about.

I am so sorry about your friend.

Hi @irregularegular Thanks for replying. No,I have had no indication at all of what to wear. Her DSil is also agonising so I may be able to pass on some ideas from here for her too!
Yes I'm thinking short-sleeved linen too;I just have to choose the style carefully to minimise all the wrong curves in all the wrong places 😆

Sorry about your friend.

Zara have this one: https://www.zara.com/uk/en/zw-collection-pleated-midi-dress-p04333041.html?v1=455947788&v2=2420900&origin=shopcart Really flattering and nice fabric.
I am a 12/14 and got medium. The brown was also lovely.

They have a few other options too.
