Complicated outfits

I've been watching YouTube style channels again. A lot of the outfit styling is so fussy and complicated, lots of tucking bits in, wearing jumpers across shoulders then putting belts and chains over ghe whole mess. It must be a nightmare going to the loo and retucking/rearranging it all again. I just want to put clothes on and go out.
Is it just me?

Yeah I can’t be arsed with all that nonsense.

I keep seeing videos with people wearing shirts in alternative ways. One women had fashioned a stripy shirt into a one shoulder top by tying it and tucking it in somehow. Crazy. Like hell did she wear that out. 🙄

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/08/2025 08:41

The jumper over the shoulder thing is a particular gripe of mine. Either it’s cold enough to wear a jumper, in which case put the fucker on, or it isn’t, in which case put the fucker in your bag or leave the fucker at home,

Wolbutter · 22/08/2025 08:43

I often think this about Trinny. Particularly when she takes wide legged trousers and somehow uses socks or hairbands to fashion them into harem pants with boots. If I did that one would definitely escape and make me look bonkers.

Haha where is the lol emoji. Glad it's not just me then.

So stupid of MN to get rid of the lol.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/08/2025 09:13

Can I also please have a silent scream about Instagram women who show off their outfits by doing a kick or a leg cross? Drives me batshit,

henlake7 · 22/08/2025 11:29

Im a big fan of layering, both clothes and jewellery/scarf but I cant be doing with all that half tuck business. I just look like I cant dress myself, its either all in or all out!
and if Im layering things then Im actually wearing them, not artfully draped around shoulders or randomly tied (I layer for the weather not for the look!).

Nellieinthebarn · 22/08/2025 11:43

Life is too short for all that nonsense, men don't do it, why should we. But I don't really do style as such. My dear stepdad used to say clothes are for keeping warm, covering modesty and soaking up the gravy. I think if they are clean, comfortable, appropriate and reasonably well coordinated that is as much as I care about.

Why are you on a Style and Beauty thread, then?!

Charlottejbt · 22/08/2025 11:52

I agree. It's fussy and scruffy at the same time, and naff. Just get clothes that fit and flatter and you won't need to twist yourself into pretzel trying to make your clothes look "styled".

I enjoy style and beauty but I don't think it means tying yourself up in knots to achieve that. I only wish I could find the tiktik style video I watched yesterday. That really was a WTF moment.

I'd say the most important thing to make an outfit look well put together in the majority of cases is a belt. And maybe a nice necklace/earrings.

The rest of it can go take a walk, I just don't have time

This IS about style. It's perfectly possible to be stylish without the need to drape yourself in jumpers, do a half tuck and kick your feet about.

LoraPiano · 22/08/2025 13:47

well they have to create new content about something to get views, so after the basics are done and rehashed a million times they dream up more and more complex stuff.

FGS. It’s very normal to be interested in style and beauty without wanting to look ridiculous by slavishly following every stupid trend that appears.

I think this hits the nail on the head, there are def things you can do to make yourself look more stylish, tuck in certain tops, roll up sleeves, roll up cuffs, wear a belt etc

But then people have to invent new stuff to make new content and it starts to get a bit silly.

hangerup · 22/08/2025 15:03

It's because they dress like this for a photo, they don't actually "live" in the clothes.

ginasevern · 22/08/2025 15:30

I hate clothes. If I could wear a bin bag I could. The idea of tucking things in, wearing layers, bows or belts makes me shudder. So does wool, but that's another story. I've been in heaven this summer. All I've had to do every morning is slip on a cool cotton dress (without bows or belts!) and a pair of flip flops. No fuss, no matching things or tucking things in. Dreading the cold weather.

TheChosenTwo · 22/08/2025 15:37

Oh god yes op it’s the artfully draping of things that piss me off. Impractical and just looks sloppy. Either wear it properly or leave it at home!

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 22/08/2025 15:45

I like to keep things simple, don't have time to be too jazzy.
For the same reason I don't buy too many patterned things or unusual colours.
I still manage to look groomed and tidy.

KatharinaRosalie · 22/08/2025 16:10

The things that take outfits from the before 'boring' to after 'stylish' always seem to be sunglasses, purse and some kind of cape/jacket/artfully draped sweater. What about when I'm indoors? I will take all that off and look boring again?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/08/2025 16:41

I do quite like the 'tucking your jumper into a belt to make it cropped' technique.

Gettingbysomehow · 22/08/2025 18:04

It was the full body spanx that got me, no poppers round the nether regions and the layers of clothes on top finished with a really tight corset. All I could think of was how the hell are you going to go to the toilet?

So stupid of MN to get rid of the lol.

If I can have one about how you can’t see what an outfit on a shopping website looks these days cos of the strange poses of the models? I particularly hate the one where they do some weird sideways scrunch or sit with legs akimbo.
