Do you always manage to stick to your shopping list?

I have a long term wish list, usually things that I know will be around for months if not years, sometime specific item like Sezane Chlo blouse in green or generic like navy cashmere sweater. I save them on Pinterest and sort of refer to them if anyone asks about gift ideas or to help budget to buy myself.

But I constantly get side tracked - new items I see in stores, or something beautifully styled online, photography in Vogue.

I have a lot more disposable income now with age and sometimes it actually makes me less careful with my purchases. My biggest error is buying several colours of something and either falling out of love with them or finding they do not last as well. E.g. M&S merino has shrank but not Uniqlo, and visa versa with cashmere.

I can’t think of anything more boring than a shopping list that is intended to be adhered to!

Yes, I save impossibly priced dream buys in Evernote, but I don’t consider myself at fault if I buy half a dozen other things that enhance my real life. And anyway, often, when I go back to my wish list, half the things on it seem considerably less desirable than before.

@BlanklyMyDear Thank you, you have made me feel a bit better. And you are right about real life and cooling off period… if the item sat on my board for a season, then I know I definitely want it.

Mostly. I find it curbs impulse buys that don’t go with anything else I have. I review my list and add to it though - it’s not a one list and done. I might have a generic example of something I am looking so won’t be too hard on myself if say I bought a Sézane Max shirt instead of a Chlo shirt. The vibe or style is generally the gap I’m looking to fill.
