I’d love to know which occasions people get their hair styled for the day/evening at a hairdressers, I’ve never done it but I’d love to one day Smile

I did this once when I went to an army ball, and another time
when I was going to a posh work Christmas do in London.

I wanted to do it when I was going to a wedding at Houses of Parliamentbut my hairdresser wasn't up that early

My brother's wedding

My wedding, when I was a bridesmaid for a good friend's wedding. I think thats about it. I also was a practice model a few times when my dsis was training as a hairdresser.

Honestly never. I feel like I look my best with my hair down.

If I’m going to a ‘posh do’ - ball, ladies day etc - rare nowadays though (& I can’t stand the races)

Recently was as MOG and if the timing is right I’ll book a regular hair appointment for a day I’m going somewhere. Last year 2 years I’ve managed it for Xmas do’s which is a result!

Only for prom, which we called the school leavers’ ball back then. I wasn’t thrilled with how it came out.

Did my own hair for my wedding, and all
my bridesmaids’ too!

For a close relatives wedding. My own wedding and time my usual wash cut and blow before a night out if I can.

I used to go to a lot of black tie dos years ago, and had longer hair back then. I often used to have an updo or other elaborate hairstyle.

Never in my 46 years. I had my hair blow-dried for my wedding and wore it 'down'.

i have a friend who gets just a blow dry for some nights out. Ie her birthday last year and she looked amazing. It really made me think it was more important than a bit of mascara.

agreed. I do get my hair done before important events and it’s either a bouncy blow dry or curls.

Rocknrollstar · 16/08/2025 21:18

I’ve not had an updo for 50 years.

Same!

Once for a work's Christmas party back in the 1980s. My hair was thick with pins and hairspray and looked like Kylie's hair when she married Jason Donovan in Neighbours. I wore a skin tight purple velvet dress, fishnet stockings, black stillettos with diamante bows on the back and earrings like chandeliers.

When I saw Ashes to Ashes on TV I couldn't believe how brilliantly they'd captured the fashions of the era.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 16/08/2025 23:46

Never. I don't like obviously blown dry hair and I can put my hair up myself for formal occasions.

Ruthietuthie · 16/08/2025 23:49

Not an up-do, but I have my hair professionally blow-dried each week. I hate styling my own hair, so just decided to stop. It lasts me about 5 days, then I wear it up for the last two.
