Help me find a new work backpack!

Hello everyone,

You're all usually great at recommendations so I'm hoping you'll be able to help. I'm in need of a new workback so I'm looking for some recommendations, there's no specific budget and I'm happy to buy something expensive if it works.

My criteria is:

  • Needs to be a relatively resilient material so can cope with commuting into London everyday.
  • Needs to be deep enough to fit a 15cm wide tupperware for my lunch.
  • Needs to have sections/pockets - my current bag doesn't so the inside is a jumble!
  • Needs to have proper straps because my bag can get quite heavy so thin ones would dig in.
  • Something that looks slightly stylish would be a bonus!
  • I occasionally take in a laptop so a laptop sleeve would be great but isn't a must have.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's suggestions!!

Look up Knomo. Also previous threads as there’s been a couple recently with lots of ideas

GlastoNinja · 16/08/2025 08:22

Look at roka- I just got one and it’s brilliant. They do lots of versions

Jamfirstest · 16/08/2025 09:06

I hate my Roka it’s too narrow and hard to get things out of

GlastoNinja · 16/08/2025 09:12

Really? I love mine! I have a few different types of bag from there

CuriousKangaroo · 16/08/2025 09:13

Love my Knomo. Meets all your criteria too.

ViolaPlains · 16/08/2025 09:16

I love my Briggs & Riley. I’ve got a backpack for work and a couple of totes and bought a backpack for DS for college.

Needlenardlenoo · 16/08/2025 09:20

We've just bought bags from Decathlon that meet the spec although they're not smart. We're scruffy teachers though and the price point was very attractive.

Try Stubble & Co.

distrussful · 16/08/2025 11:33

Try Kapten and Son

Hdoodley · 16/08/2025 11:37

I'd recommend Stubble and Co as well. Waterproof, loads of space, indestructible, fits laptop safely and protected and looks great. Had mine years, used while motorbiking also and it's still looking ace.

My friend has a Kapten & son which is lovely and she really rates (has a back issue). I have a lefrik which is a good size but really annoys me as you have to undo it to get to the little pocket where you put keys:phone work pass and the clips are like thumb clips so I have to put it down every time.

Fedupandstressed · 16/08/2025 18:46

I have a fjallraven schule. Deep with a laptop pocket, a little pocket at the top, where I keep my battery and keys, and a front pocket with sections for my sunnies and pens. Also two external deep pockets for my big water bottle and umbrella.
Proper straps with a chest and waist clip as well, so comfy!

Also comes in a multitude of colours. I also use it with one of the mini cross body phone bags so I don’t have to take the back off just get my phone and work ID out.skule

I love my Briggs & Riley too and have been using it for 5 years now and still going strong. I’ve not looked back since. I commute to London almost every day. Have bought many other backpacks in the past and get bored and regret after 6 months. Ha.

Piquadro is a good brand too. Have not personally used it but they look pretty stylish and versatile.

This is mine and I love it! Really practical! www.osprey.com/gb/osprey-arcane-large-day-s25?size=One+Size&colour=Cascade+Blue

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Annoyingly most of the brands suggested don't do backpacks which are deep enough for my lunchbox! However, this osprey one looks like it could fit the bill.

Adore my Roka with umbrella pocket. Perfect for my commute to London and even the straps which look like nothing special I find comfortable / carry laptop, notebook, thermos flask..

littleteapot86 · 17/08/2025 12:46

I'm just posting to say dont buy a Rains backpack. Rubbish quality.

Worcesterdrivenorth · 17/08/2025 12:59

I recommend looking in T K Maxx - quite a selection which meet your brief.

PinkZebraStripes · 17/08/2025 19:44

Place marking for my new backpack!

QueenOfTheDarkAges · 17/08/2025 19:57

I have a Lefrik one which I love. Has a couple of pockets on the top and one in the back for items you might want to reach without opening fully as well as pockets/dividers inside. Lots of colours and a few different models and sizes too which I think is useful.

IsItTimeToRetireYet · 18/08/2025 00:01

I’ve had a Samsonite laptop backpack for a few years and it still looks like new. Very smart and lots of pockets. Worth checking an outlet store if one near you, I got mine on sale at Bicester Village
