Classy Crossbody handbag recommendations

dazedandblue · 15/08/2025 21:05

I'm looking for a classy crossbody handbag that zips shut, one that I can use both for work and everyday.
I like leather, and can be black or brown.

I have a work backpack, so it doesn't need to fit a laptop or anything.

Ideally it fits

  • work phone
  • personal phone
  • wallet
  • glasses/sunglasses case
  • keys
  • in ear head phones
  • a few bits and pieces like lip balm, lipstick, small travel handcream etc

I'd love to hear your suggestions and recommendations.

Budget would be ideally be up to £500, but can stretch if the bag is perfect.

Sezane has lovely, quality bags for well within your budget.

Thank you so much, I will have a look!

Mimi Berry. Her bags are beautifully made in England and only get better with age - I have ones that in bought 15 years ago still in daily use. Her new season stuff is dropping soon but her Bart bag is my everyday go-to from the current season.

Best thing is the bags have a warranty but even when that expires she will repair/spruce them up as and when so they're a proper investment.

I like a bit of Paul Costelloe, very reasonable prices compared to some. https://www.paulcostelloebags.com/product/kouti-2/?attribute_pa_uwcf-colors=cofbea

I’ve been on the same hunt and it boils down to what sort of shape you like - camera, half moon, satchel, y2k, casual (seasalt type) etc. I realised I wanted different bags for travelling on the tube for work, to going to the pub, or a day out etc. so I narrowed it down to style then searched on vinted for those with really nice leather. Look for Jaeger and Tula for example. I ended up buying three lovely leather bags for the price of one for different occasions.

dazedandblue · 17/08/2025 18:50

This is a very good point!
I think generally I'm more of a camera bag or half moon kind of woman.

At least for the 'catch all' bag.

Currently I have 2 bags I use, a Coach slouchy half moon one that was bought around 10 years ago on a mega sale in NYC (and is the currently very broken and knackered one that I need to replace) and then a YSL Lou Camera Bag that comes out on more special occasions which I adore.

I had also been looking at the mini zipped Bayswater from Mulberry but it's.a bit more than I was willing to pay in the current climate especially when from reading MN, it seems like the quality has gone down a lot.

I think Mulberry are still decent. I’m on a similar hunt to you

At the lower end of your budget but love a cross body bag and after bad experiences with Mulberry I got this - honeyandtoast.co.uk/products/katie-camera-bag-black

It is an absolute workhorse of a bag (I don't go I for multiple handbags), I use it every day, frequently stuffed to the gills and 15 months after purchase it still looks great.

SouthWestTulip · 18/08/2025 13:55

I’ve just got this one. Although there’s no zip, the magnet fastener on the flap is quite strong and holds it all together well.

@PottersMarsBars I have a couple of those and really like them.

I clicked on the link to the Mimi Berry bag and really liked it, but it was unlined. I would never buy an unlined bag - don't they get really dirty?

Conversensational · 18/08/2025 14:19

I've don't know if it's my age but I'm finding the usual places for bags that I would have bought a decade ago are really disappointing now. I used to love radley because the liners were so good, tons of the right sized pockets and zips. Now most of them are just a big bucket with hardly any pockets etc.

I've actually found places like Samsonite to better daily bags with very simple designs. I wish I could find a good leather bag somewhere though.

Ruthietuthie · 18/08/2025 14:24

Leo et Violette have several that are really lovely. I am currently eyeing this one. They are a French company, whose bags are leather and made in Italy.

This is my favourite bag and I have it in multiple colours - its a great day to night bag, fits loads of essentials in and looks nice carried top handle and crossbody.

i have a ridiculous amount of bags and this is always my go to

Notajogger · 18/08/2025 19:31

I have a tote from here, which is gorgeous and as immaculate as when I bought it. They also have cross body and other styles of bag.

Plus they're eco friendly, using reclaimed leather, decommissioned fire hoses etc

I always like Russell and Bromley bags. Well made and quite a few cross body bags to choose from. Arket &OtherStories also have good bags. You would have money left over and could buy 2 bags!
