What is your absolute favourite - and affordable - make-up base for dry skin?

Keen to hear suggestions! Before applying make-up, I do:

  • A regular nivea moisturiser and eye cream
  • sun cream
  • primer

But this is a loooot of steps and to be honest, none of these products are particularly good. My make-up never lasts!

Any product that combined these? Otherwise, what are your recommendations? Affordable stuff please, not the higher-end influencer brands!

That’s a lot of product to be applying before makeup. You need to make sure you are giving your skin at least 30 minutes after all that before you start with the makeup, otherwise it’s just going to slide off.

Can you use a moisturiser that contains sunscreen, and skip the eye cream? That means only 1 layer rather than 3. That might help.

I use a drop of rose hip oil followed by Weleda Skin Food moisturiser then La Roche Posay spf50. The moisturiser is amazing for dry skin - heavy duty so a little goes a long way and the oil helps it to sink in beautifully. My spf is a very thin, non greasy formula.

Well moisturised skin is key for makeup but you also need to use a setting powder for it to last. Laura Mercier is my go to but Collection do a great affordable dupe.

I've really dry skin and make up used to look a bit "patchy". I decided to take a punt on Lumene products in Boots £10 Tuesday deals. I'm now hooked on them, my skin has never looked better. I've since bought them at full price but stock up if they appear on a Tuesday. I'm using Lumene Nordic Hydra Aqua Hydration Serum and Lumene invisible illumination Instant Glow UV primer spf 30. If my skin is really dry I'll add a bit of Clinique moisture surge after the serum and before primer.
