I can’t say I am impressed with Asda’s current offering when I popped into a store with a small clothing session. I have bought stuff from Sainsbury’s, both first hand and second hand, in the past but I can’t say I am overly impressed.

I like tu and Tescos. But Asda have been dreadful for years now. Cheap sweaty fabrics and polyester jumpers that bobble

Phoebesparrow · 09/08/2025 21:45

I used to live in asdas underwear
The bras and matching pants where my treat to myself every week
Then they went downhill, the sizes went weird, the fabric went odd and the designs all seemed to be bright acidic colours or basic white-I hate both
I don't want to wear ninja turtle green underwear,I was happy with black or patterned

Tescos jeans used to be the bees tits, they fit really well, where just the right length and they did lovely colours/styles
Then they just went cheap/thin denim and fell apart (twice when I was out and about while wearing them)
I thought it was just me but dp says the same thing with the mens jeans

I used to buy at least one pair of pyjamas from sainsburys every week on my way to work
100% cotton, washed well, lovely designs and true to size
Then they seemed to stop doing them, the sizing went weird and the designs are crap
They only seem to do the more expensive pyjamas which are that awful fake silk fabric and I just boil to death wearing them or cheap and scratchy cotton that doesn't soften after washing (but seems to shrink if you do put them in the machine)

I stick to buying on vinted now-i tend to stick to my liked and trusted brands

Tu at Sainsbury's used to be really good for basics and the odd really interesting thing. This last year though their range seems much smaller and the quality is rubbish now. I have gone from buying about half my clothes there to none at all.

Newgirls · 09/08/2025 21:47

tu is good - just wish they brought back they changing rooms and staff to keep the stock tidy. Surely they’d sell more than enough to cover it

Blackcountryexile · 09/08/2025 21:58

I've had nice things from TU that have washed and worn well. I think you have to choose carefully. They tend to have similar styles from year to year which is fine if that's what you like. I've seen things in there which are very similar but much cheaper than higher end shops.
I had 2 lovely pure cotton nighties from TU which are a decent weight. They were an absolute bargain at £8 each in the sale.
A few years ago I bought several striped cotton tops from Morrisons. They were better quality than Joules which were far more expensive. Sadly the quality has slipped this year.

MaryTheTurtle · 09/08/2025 22:01

Asda is great for me

MrsPositivity1 · 09/08/2025 22:02

in got some great stuff from Tesco

ShaunaSadeki · 09/08/2025 22:04

I love TU barrel jeans and cotton pjs

HansHolbein · 09/08/2025 22:07

I used to like George and bought quite a bit from there, but it’s got a bit meh recently and the prices have gone up. I’ve had some nice bits from Tu.

No idea about other supermarkets. I don’t rate supermarket clothes that highly really.

CoastalCalm · 09/08/2025 22:15

Only Sainsbury’s

MalcolmMoo · 09/08/2025 22:22

I like sainsburys especially their jeans.

Tereseta · 09/08/2025 22:25

I brought two lovely jumpsuits from George this year and a leopard print work dress. Very surprised as never been impressed by their clothes. Tu often has some gems, especially on the sales rack!

Astrabees · 10/08/2025 07:05

I have a chunky cable knit cotton jumper from Tu that must be 4 years old now, it washes beautifully and gets lots of compliments still. Not bad for about £20.

borntobequiet · 10/08/2025 07:26

Asda used to do some very nice stuff, good quality cotton t-shirts (better than M&S), and I have some really excellent heavy linen wide leg trousers, properly cut, not drawstring waist, that I’ve worn every summer for at least six years. They still look current. However I haven’t looked in there recently. Tu is consistently good and I love their comfy cotton lounge bras that actually give decent support.

Morestepsplease · 10/08/2025 07:42

I wouldn’t buy supermarket clothes myself these days but I have teens/young adult dc and I find Asda good for pyjamas, underwear and my eldest wears the black jeans and they look really nice. Also good for jogging bottoms, jersey shorts, hoodies, adult Disney tops etc. Not my thing but dc live in them.

FluffyWabbit · 10/08/2025 07:44

I used to buy a lot of supermarket clothing but I refuse to if they don't have dressing room accommodation, now. Very annoying.

IDontHateRainbows · 10/08/2025 07:46

Bought a wonderful shirt dress from sainsbos earlier this year, just as good as anything from the high st and only £25.

I do find sainsbos an.outlier, tesco asda etc unless its a cheap basic i don't bother as quality isn't usually great.

suki1964 · 10/08/2025 07:47

Tu for jeans and trousers and I got some lovely cotton short sleeved jumpers in the sale

Used to like Asda but not bought a thing for a couple of years

Tescos I get one or two items a year - got some lovely shorts this year that I have lived in

I dont buy many clothes at all tbh as I dont need loads, I live in leggings during the day at home, throw jeans on to go out , have a couple of bits for more fancy wear Surprisingly I like lidl leggings, they never wear - always look new out of the machine

WonderingWanda · 10/08/2025 07:50

Occasionally they have some nice bits like any other cheap shop. Sometimes it's just not quite right, either the print, fabric or cut. Same as any other cheap retailer I guess. Peacocks and Matalan are another example, I've picked up a few nice linen blend bits, the odd dress or skirt that I really like and fits me.

Unicornskies · 10/08/2025 07:51

I love George and Tu for kids clothes, especially baby clothes. F&F kids clothes always look more garish and tackier to me although I have found a few nice things here and there.

For adults I find lots of stuff looks really nice on the hanger but when you get it home to try on it usually looks awful and unflattering. Tu is probably the best one, I haven't tried their jeans though but people seem to like them from this thread so maybe I'll check them out.

icelolly12 · 10/08/2025 08:30

SirChenjins · 09/08/2025 13:30

I like Tu - I've got some really nice things from there. Just wish they did a petite range.

They used to have a really decent petite range on their website, now it's just a few items. 😥

Newgirls · 10/08/2025 08:34

Come on Tu if you are reading this - if we’re going to buy jeans we need changing rooms

SirChenjins · 10/08/2025 08:35

icelolly12 · 10/08/2025 08:30

They used to have a really decent petite range on their website, now it's just a few items. 😥

Yes it's not great is it ☹️ Our local store used to have a small in-store petite range but they got rid of it a few years back.

JoRaRaRa · 10/08/2025 08:46

I used to buy a lot from George but recently I've struggled to get into their clothes. I'm a 16 at River Island but sometimes can't even get into a size 20 at George 😱 so that really puts me off. The supermarket I buy mostly from is Sainsbury's, over the last couple of years their ranges have been 👌 and I like it when they do 25% off, I do a right shopping spree 🛍️🤣

ShoeeMcfee · 10/08/2025 08:49

I bought a tu t shirt and nightie when I was on holiday recently and I'm really impressed with the quality of the cotton: It is thick and smooth. They are better quality than t shirts/nighties I've bought from M&S.

I stopped buying anything at all from Hush because of the crap quality of the fabrics they use. Shame, because they do nice styles.
