Handbag for 16 year old dd

dd has been using her fjallraven rucksack or tote bags mostly but would like a more grown up yet not overly formal handbag, either a cross body or shoulder bag.

What sort of bags are trendy with this age group? She has a Longchamp for school but wants something smaller.

Is it a surprise or something she is going to select herself?

There’s a good range of budget friendly, leather and suede bags at free people. I would say the designs would appeal to a 16 year old and definitely not too formal.

Edited. I missed the big about already having a Longchamp!

Have a look at Katie Loxton. Some great bags on there.

Small leather bucket bags are fashionable in her age group.
Weirdly so are old school designer bags. I’m just back from Stockholm and the young girls16-25 are all carrying small second hand 1990s designer bags. Finally those canvas Japanese bags are definitely cool for some

Thank you, I should add, that Y2K / "clean girl" aesthetic is her go to style.

I'm not au fait with designer bags from the 1990s, what brands or styles are cool/in?

A search of ‘Japanese canvas bags’ will give you a hundred options from blinking Temu and Shein onward.

Old Miu Miu bags, Diesel, Coach ( saw old Balenciaga and Fendi too) etc…in handbag or often in small armpit shoulder bags, often colourful, all with added things which hang from them, from charms, to scarfs, to Labubus

Slight diversion if l may, but l went from always having a handbag to regularly using a FFjaileaven rucksack being my go to when l hit my 40s. 😀. The irony. And l still don’t know what l want to do when l grow up 🥹.

For clean girl a copy of a Goyard maybe? Would she consider a cute tiny colourful Longchamp? I’ve seen those on UK girls and they look great too.

Look at Diesel bags of old if she is in to the Y2K style via Vinted and EBay etc.
