Pool party outfit

NewcastleNancy · 08/08/2025 10:51

We are going to a wedding next year in Algarve in July and the final day is a pool party.

I am late 50's. Like dressing up etc but have no idea what one wears to a pool party. I am slim but have stretch marks on my stomach from huge babies so would rather be covered up.

All age groups will be there.

Can anyone help?

thanks
Nancy

Gosh that sounds like my worst nightmare.

Is it still supposed to be fancy? I like a mini tshirt dress as a cover up at the pool. Keeps the sun off my shoulders and easy to get on and off.

Guess what I’d wear (see user name). A beautiful silk kaftan! Both cavalli and Camilla have good sales at the moment

Personally I’d wear my bikini (structured with underwire and larger control pants!) with a kaftan, sarong and vest top or short dress over the top. Don’t overthink this one, clue is in the name - pool so think about what you would wear on a nice holiday

Twoshoesnewshoes · 08/08/2025 11:02

Yes I’d wear a kaftan or light fabric midi dress in summery fabric over a costume, and silver flip flops

Another vote for a kaftan. If you find them too voluminous you can always belt them. Plenty on Etsy at reasonable prices in varying lengths. They can look very glamorous with nice accessories.

Definitely need to save! What over the top if I don't want a kaftan? I find kaftan's a bit casual and toovoluminous for me. I'm a size 6/8 and 5.7.

You didn’t look properly! You want a crocheted / loosely knitted, or mesh dress to put over your swimwear. Narrow, not voluminous.

I stand corrected. Only looked at the bikinis. The had to have a lie down. Will do my homework properly.

😂😂

What about a fitted maxi crochet dress? There is need to spend hundreds of pounds either if this is not normally your sort of thing, Next have some nice beachwear.

SpongyBob · 11/08/2025 13:15

Heidi Klein or Melissa Odabash beach dress would be my go to.
You could get something in the sale or look at The OUTNET.

£215 for a bucket hat?

I'm always happy to pay more for Italian style but that is taking the piss.

owlexpress · 12/08/2025 14:28

Crochet and mesh are very Love Island/O Beach, but are roasting hot in the sun.

Absolutely no need to spend £100s on a beach dress for goodness sake, not even if you are the bride! In fact, I'd aim to look glam but leave the bride to shine.

It's probably the worst time to look for an outfit like this given we're into August. If you start looking next spring you will have more options. Boux Avenue etc tend to stock nice cover ups, or just a floaty maxi or midi would work.

Just read the invite properly.

The brides want all their guests to be extra glamorous and the theme is blue and white.

Made me feel sick again. I think it's the thought of being in a bikini and not being properly covered up.

Sounds like the vibe is to wait until Spring 26 to look.

It doesn't have to be a bikini? Many one-pieces are very elegant (see the £215 bucket hat site for examples 😊)
