Yes I would and have, in fact I enjoy renovating and caring for leather as long as soles are good
i spray with dettol antibacterial aerosol spray and polish them before wearing.
I buy everything from Vinted now.

OverlyFragrant · 07/08/2025 23:34

Yes. I check out the soles before buying as that's a pretty good indication of wear.

CrotchetyQuaver · 07/08/2025 23:56

Yes

I bought some gorgeous Hobbs boots from Vinted, brand new, unmarked soles, RRP £289 and the seller accepted £30 - happy days.

Partalkes · 08/08/2025 00:53

I've bought BNWT shoes from Vinted (and I could tell from the soles they'd not been worn) but I wouldn't wear worn shoes or boots. I don't like the idea of someone's elses feet sweating in them and not being able to wash it thoroughly. I'm happy enough with the cheaper prices I can get on there for new shoes and don't need to look for a lower price for worn shoes.
I'm fine buying secondhand clothes from Vinted that can be washed.

Jaguarana · 08/08/2025 01:05

No, but I don't think I'd buy anything from Vinted, it always looks a bit grubby to me. I like the idea of it, but I just can't. And definitely not footwear, just no. I might possibly buy clothes from a charity shop that I can have a good look and sniff at, but never footwear.

RubieChewsDay · 08/08/2025 01:09

No because my Mum always told me not to buy second hand shoes and, despite ignoring most of her advice, for some reason I've decided to follow this bit.

TBH I don't even like buying new shoes online, any time I have I'm always full of regret as they are never the right fit. I may just have awkward feet though.

I bought some lovely boots last winter. Only go for items with good photos including soles, and plenty of good reviews.

mondaytosunday · 08/08/2025 03:19

My DD has and several pairs of shoes too. She doesn’t seem to mind that they second hand and tries to only buy ones that are in at least ‘very good’ condition.

inadequatepillow · 08/08/2025 07:26

not since someone sent me A SINGLE BOOT and then argued with me about it.

Custark · 08/08/2025 07:51

I buy sandals as I can give the top sole a wipe. Boots though they would have to be only worn a couple of times, too hard to clean otherwise and their foot will have stretched out the boot to the shape of their foot (if leather).

Cyclingmummy1 · 08/08/2025 08:10

I've sold shoes that have been worn 2-3 times, and golf shoes that my son had outgrown. I only ask 20% ish of the full price. In the main, people have been happy, one woman complained a pair of golf shoes needed a wash. They did, I'd said so on the listing. I've got lots of excellent ratings which seems to give confidence.

I wouldn't buy used shoes/boots. But then, I wouldn't buy pre owned nightwear or swimming costumes, and that sells really well.

CMOTDibbler · 08/08/2025 08:54

Yes, I buy a lot of shoes and boots second hand, people do often wear them once either for an occasion or just don’t get on with them and sell them for a fraction of the price. I’m going to wear socks/ tights with them anyway so can’t get over excited about someone else having worn them

NonHighStreetClothes · 08/08/2025 10:15

Thanks for all the comments on this I appreciate it

I've sold barely & unworn shoes myself. But they've genuinely been unworn.

I've actually bought a pair of dressy shoes, new with tags in their box & dust bag etc. It felt different as i could see all the way inside the shoe in the photos etc

I've been looking at winter boots, laced chunky ankle boots & saw a pair i liked the look of. The status is 'very good but they're def not new with tags & i suddenly felt a bit funny about the fact that someone else's feet have been in there.

I wonder if I'd wear them a couple of times & then forget about that?

I know I'm probably being silly

Yep I bought a pair of boots, worn once. They were immaculate. I also sold a pair of lightly worn DM Mary Janes. Buyer seemed happy

OverlyFragrant · 08/08/2025 10:18

In fact I collected some vinted boots from the locker yesterday.
New in shop cost £170.
Vinted cost £22 including postage.
Tags are still on and you can tell from the sole that they've been work to try on and not worn outside.

Bargain!!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/08/2025 10:30

I’ve bought two pairs of DM boots - both in perfect nick, I think the sellers just gave up on breaking them in!

NonHighStreetClothes · 08/08/2025 12:05

Thanks for all your reassurances!

Same, DM Wincox for £25.
Total bargain.

WinterRoad · 08/08/2025 18:50

I would and I do. Like others I check the soles for wear etc.
Just FYI,I used to work in a shoe shop. I was astounded at the number of times a pair of shoes had been tried on before they are actually sold. Not everyone has nice, clean feet either.

RubieChewsDay · 08/08/2025 23:05

Trying on is different to wearing day in day out though.

I’m actually now coming round to the shoes on Vinted idea now, although only new ones!!
