Nails for 2 week holiday

mumtosnchild · 07/08/2025 08:29

I am thinking of getting my nails painted for a 2 week holiday but am confused by the options as I am not someone who gets their nails done! Would I be best going for shellac, normal nail varnish, gel (is this different to shellac), or biab (whatever that is).

Just looking at nails for a fortnight holiday nothing longer term.

Help gratefully appreciated!

A gel polish at a good salon will last about 3 weeks so will be fine. Shellac is a brand of gel polish. It was one of the first but now there are lots of similar brands. I’ve never had builder gel but think it’s halfway between gel and acrylics.

I’m having gel polish done in the salon next week for my holiday. By the time I’m back it will have been on for 3 weeks which is about the maximum for me. Back to the salon to have it removed and then I will let my nails breathe and nourish with nail oil. Gel is great, hard wearing and glossy.

Go for builder gel if your nails are weak or break easily. I had it done for about year until I got my nails to a good length/condition.

I now just have normal gel polish and it lasts about 3 weeks.

Thanks all for the replies. Think I will go for a gel polish. Hopefully it lasts!

Biab = builder in a bottle = builder gel. It is in a normal nail varnish bottle but cures to rock hard. It lasts better than normal gel but for a 2 week holiday normal gel will likely last long enough

Definitely not normal varnish, it wont last.

i would get gel or BIAB depending on the type of holiday, condition of your nails and how rough you are on your hands.

im quite tough on my hands and my nails break easily so i get biab, its really strong so my nails stay absolutely perfect for weeks.
