Wedding guest prep - how much do you do?

I’m attending a wedding in a few weeks and was chatting to a friend earlier today about it as she’s going too. She started rattling off all the appointments she’s got booked in the run up to it, including a facial, spray tan, manicure and pedicure, haircut and on the day she’s having her hair styled and her make up done by an artist. I have none of those things planned. I was going to style my hair and do my make up but it hadn’t occurred to me to get a spray tan and my friend was surprised I hadn’t even considered it. Previous weddings I’ve been to I’ve just got myself a dress/accessories if needed and have done my own hair, nails and make up. It got me thinking what others consider important as part of wedding guest prep.

I did all of those things your friend did BUT I was Mother of the Bride! I went to a wedding a few months later and just bought a new dress and had my nails done, everything else I did myself. Hope that helps x

I find what your friend is doing a lot!. I have my hair done, and a mani/pedi if I have more money.

I have a wedding in about 2 weeks. I may get a pedicure. Shave my legs. That’s it.

StrawberryCranberry · 04/08/2025 21:43

Personally I don't do any of these things. But each to their own.

minipie · 04/08/2025 21:43

That’s a lot more than I had done when I was the actual bride.

laesosalt · 04/08/2025 21:44

Recently attended a wedding and got someone to the house to do my hair and makeup. Big regret! I wish I had just done it myself. Save yourself some pennies and time ☺️ Only thing I normally do is buy a new dress and some accessories to match! Weddings are expensive already 🤪

Coffeeishot · 04/08/2025 21:46

I did a lot of getting ready for my Dds wedding things I wouldn't do as a normal guest ,which would consist of getting my hair done on the day if I had time and probably shave my legs 😀

TheChosenTwo · 04/08/2025 21:47

As a wedding guest I may have bought myself a new outfit/bag/shoes but I’m not mad on grooming so will do hair myself, shave my own legs and pluck my brows if they need a little tidy up.
As a guest I’m not the main event, no one is looking at me (thank god!) so I’ll look smart and appropriately tidy but no way would I be putting that much effort into being a guest at someone’s event.
Each to their own though, some people do genuinely enjoy getting dressed up and paying a lot of attention to the finer details. I’m just not one of them. You don’t have to be either just because someone else is!!

This! Your friend clearly has money to burn - her choice if she wants to spend it on that I suppose, but I can honestly say I can't remember a single outfit that another wedding guest was wearing at any of the weddings I've attended. Leave alone how they had done their hair or what colour their nails were!
I would blow dry/ style my hair, paint my nails, make sure my feet were presentable if they were going to be visible in my shoes, and shave my legs. Oh and put some makeup on badly, in the car

Coffeeishot · 04/08/2025 21:49

My Sister usually has a countdown of things when she is going to a wedding, she must spend a fortune before she gets there I am just too stingy and won't pay for it.

Same. Other than having my hair done on the day I had no appointments at all.

Right?! 🤣

Your friend has fallen for all the propaganda!
I might get a new outfit, which i check a week before, make sure I'm happy with fit etc. Also have a second outfit (already in wardrobe, not new) in case I completely change mind.
Personally, I might colour my hair a couple of weeks before, and give it a trim. I do both myself.
Shave legs, but just because I like to when wearing something nice, or I might have tights in and dont want hairs sticking through!
Moisturise any skin on show a bit more than usual.
Paint nails night before.
On the day, do own hair, make up etc. It's nice to dress up and look good, but really not necessary To spend loads of money.

Growlybear83 · 05/08/2025 09:58

I didn’t do any of those things for my own wedding let alone as a guest at someone else’s!

Likewise!

yeesh · 05/08/2025 10:06

If I’m in the bridal party then I get my hair & make up done but otherwise I just buy a new frock and do the rest myself.

Same. When it was my wedding I had my hair done and a friend did my make-up. As a guest I'd put a dress on and that's it.
