Is this bag fashionable?

It's just arrived, I want to branch out from my usual Longchamp Le Pliage (I'm mainly waiting to use it for travelling on my holiday coming up, and maybe work). I just can't tell if it looks good, or really bad 😭

I've also bought into the bag charm trend, and it's accessorised with a lemon 🤣 for context, I am mid-20s.

I think there are better bags out there.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 04/08/2025 15:34

That’s one of the ugliest bags I’ve ever seen.

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/08/2025 15:44

Hmm, bit cheap looking? I’m not a fan, sorry

NewHat · 04/08/2025 16:05

It’s awful.

NewHat · 04/08/2025 16:06

Like a Venetian blind.

1abovethead · 04/08/2025 16:08

I quite like it! Its sort of fresh and a bit quirky.

Ruthietuthie · 04/08/2025 16:13

From a distance it is quite attractive and the shape and style is contemporary, I think. Reminds me of a similar cushiony pleated bag from Staud, the bean-bag, which comes in a smaller size but also in cream. So it is echoing looks that are in fashion but in quite a safe M and S way.
The thing that puts me off entirely is that it is plastic rather than leather. And, as is often the case with faux leather, reviewers comment on the unpleasant smell. I also don't think it would be long-lasting, as I imagine you get some peeling/melting/wearing through around the handle and the base.

ohsososo · 04/08/2025 16:14

It’s plastic

DeLaRuiz · 04/08/2025 16:16

Ok, if this bag is a bit of a fail… can some posters point in the right direction? I’m in need of a bag too!

Housewife2010 · 04/08/2025 16:23

How about a straw bag? M&S have some nice ones at a similar price point.

evilharpy · 04/08/2025 16:51

Sorry OP, it's really not great.

What's the budget and is leather acceptable?

I’ve bought it now! I just wondered if I’d found something and had good taste, or not. Evidently not 🤣

I like it.

It’s awful.

It’s especially awful if you are a 22 year old young woman.

All good, I’m 26, not 22!🤣

No. Its not

Do M&S do fashionable bags? I dont think they ever have

PInkyStarfish · 04/08/2025 19:57

I meant to write 25 not 22!

The bag shape looks like it should be slouchy but it’s rigid and just looks awkward.

It would look better if it were smaller and advertised as a toiletry bag!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/08/2025 10:13

It looks like I've gone into my craft room and whipped up a bag from an old pleated skirt. A no from me !

needapokerface · 05/08/2025 10:15

Its a yes from me 😁

sophistitroll · 05/08/2025 10:31

Actually it’s a very nice bag and is very on trend in terms of style. I’ve seen it and it is a bit plasticky but it’s a nice bag and very much current

HundredMilesAnHour · 05/08/2025 11:25

Hmm, it’s rather a classic example of how M&S ‘designs’ which is to ‘borrow’ trends from designers (in this case, the pleated effect from Neous and the knots from Esin Akan and others) and then water them down into something more conservative (and imo much less stylish) usually a year or two after they were ‘on trend’. But I guess that’s what most M&S shoppers want and they know their market.

It’s not the world’s most exciting bag but it’s fairly inoffensive apart from the faux leather. Unless you’re vegan / have ethical concerns, you’re usually better off buying leather as it will last longer, looks (and feels) better and will age well. Or if you’re vegan, invest in faux leather from Nanushka who is very much the design leader in vegan leather as the quality is superb, it lasts and you’d be hard pressed to tell that it’s not genuine leather.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 05/08/2025 13:53

I'm not a fan of faux-leather, so I wouldn't buy it, but I think the design is perfectly fine - as some others have said, the shape and style are reasonably current. I don't think you'll stand out as particularly unfashionable. If you like it, wear it with confidence!

I do hate bag charms though 😂
