Make up lesson?

I need help updating my make up look and technique. I’m rubbish at doing it and my eyelids are becoming so heavy looking now I’m older that I need to change my approach. I live near London. Can anyone suggest where / who I can go to for a lesson please? How much would it cost?

Just to add, I don’t want to have loads of products sold to me - though I’m open to a few bits. This is more about skills and style. Thanks!

There are hundreds of really great video tutorials on YouTube , just do a search for makeup for mature women, you can learn so much from them

Seaside3 · 02/08/2025 08:23

Instagram has plenty of mua for all ages too.
Why not find a few and have a go at different looks at home, if you're happy with the makeup you already have?

BrinkWomanship · 02/08/2025 08:42

Thanks but really would like an in person session.

In that case, I'd try an independent mua. Maybe someone who does weddings, they might have more time in autumn? At least they are not likely to try and sell you products. Contact a few and ask if they offer lessons?

ErnestClementine · 02/08/2025 10:36

Space NK offer this for £40 I think, with the cost redeemable against products. Not tried it but keep meaning to!

BrinkWomanship · 02/08/2025 12:31

That’s a very helpful suggestion @ErnestClementine. Have checked out their website but can’t find anything about it.

I don’t think space NK do makeup lessons, they will do your makeup for you with the cost redeemable against a product

Ah thank you. Hmm, back to square one then! Smile

Mac still do this as far as I know

BrinkWomanship · 02/08/2025 12:55

Ooh yes they do!! Would their style work for middle aged women? I always think of them as very ‘fashion’.

Make contact with some of them and tell them what you are looking for, also maybe send them a picture of yourself, tell them you want an in person lesson and not online

BrinkWomanship · 02/08/2025 13:21

Not sure it gets that personal. Have to book online for an appointment at one of the stores. I’ll try Mac in John Lewis Westfield. Surely a middle aged demographic if ever there was one!

@BrinkWomanship I have recently looked into this and have found a couple of MUA s near you where I live who offer this. I initially asked on a local mum’s Facebook group for recommendations and then did a google search. I haven’t yet had my session but have had positive contact with two people offering this service. What I have found is that they tend to offer this during the autumn / winter when the demand for wedding make up is lower. I too am middle aged and have lost my way with my look so am hoping for help with techniques and understanding what suits me. Good luck !

BrinkWomanship · 02/08/2025 15:13

That’s a good shout too @way2serious. I’ll reach out to some local to me.

Macs advertising line is/was ‘all ages, all genders’ so should be suitable

FinallyHere · 02/08/2025 19:10

You may not have heard about https://www.cosmeticsalacarte.com/ as they do not advertise and instead rely on word of mouth. Really world class and able to adjust to whatever you want.

I’ve been going to Laura for years though know that her colleagues are great too.

Enjoy

Go to a Bobbi Brown counter.

Trinny’s stores offer this. As does Charlotte Tilburt & Mac. Pick a brand you use.
