Maxi dresses

Went to a gig the other night, older crowd, mid 50s and above. I was the only person wearing a maxi dress. Everyone else in trousers. Honestly. Provincial town. Am I so out of touch?

Well, they definitely had their moment but it was at least a couple of years ago now and they will look dated.

Cue posters coming along to say, if you like it wear it, don’t follow fashion, yada yada. 🥱

What was the gig? Different genres have their own style. I’ve been the only person not in black jeans and a band t-shirt at lots of gigs.

Maybe its just the location. I dont think Id wear a maxi dress to a gig, although I'll happily wear one other places.

If I'd noticed at all I'd just have thought how boring they looked in their uniformity.

I was at a concert last night by this bunch. All ages although a good proportion of over 50s. I was wearing a just above ankle length cotton, floral dress from Cabbages & Roses- the 20 something venue usher said she loved my dress.

It was a warm night, I couldn't face jeans. Thought I know other trousers are available. It was the kind of thing where I think I'd have seen dresses a couple of years ago!

It's making me think are maxis dead or was it just the venue?

I wouldn't wear a maxi dress to a gig because of the state of the toilets in these places. I would wear a shorter dress (I've got a great All Saints one) or lighter weight jeans/trousers.

Oh honestly. If you’d spoken to half the trouser wearers they’d have said they didn’t know what to wear so played it safe and wish they had the chutzpah to glam it up in a long dress.
Dont You feel lovely in a long dress? I do. People not wearing them are missing out imho.

I haven’t seen anybody wearing a maxi dress for years tbh, but I have been seeing a lot of tiered maxi skirts worn with a vest or crop top.
