Help me get boots and jeans right

What’s a good combo that doesn’t involve black boots.

I can do jeans and trainers, jeans and sandals etc but I seem to struggle with boots and jeans, particularly for a smarter look.

I suit most jeans but not keen on wide leg jeans with boots so thinking boot cut or going back to skinny?

I do wide leg or flares with DMs (if not wearing trainers), and on the odd occasion I wear something a bit smarter, with pointy, kitten heel suede ankle boots. My friend rocks barrel leg with gold cowboy boots, but I'd look like a twat. I am not a fan of skinnies with knee high boots, looks like people are about to mount a horse.

digiwidgy · 29/07/2025 06:07

Yeah mounting a horse is a concern! I too would look like a twat in barrel legs with boots. Too many options now with jeans. It shouldn’t be this hard! You have given me something to think about with wide legs and suede boots though.

I can’t do it either. Since jeans are wider then boots just look wrong and I didn’t wear boots and jeans last winter at all.

Stripeysockspots · 29/07/2025 06:55

If you go wide get the length right. Flappy jeans around ankles look absolutely ridiculous.

TizerorFizz · 29/07/2025 06:59

Flared and Chelsea boots. Easily solved.

I just can't visualise that at all without looking frumpy.

Straight leg and western boot here

Doggymummar · 29/07/2025 08:05

I have Ganni rubber Chelsea boots for skinnies Knee length suede also. Cowboy ankle boots and glorious yellow wellies. Anything wider than a skinny gets a training shoe. I have platform Supergas in a few colours and Stan Smiths. I have superdry sliders I have lived in all Summer.

Attictroll · 29/07/2025 08:12

Black boots and jeans always look wrong to me… I always go for tan or brown and it tends not to feel and I hope not look dated

Me neither.

I think a heel is what elevates boots and jeans, doesn’t have to be high. Something like a relaxed slim, straight or girlfriend works for me, baggier jeans look better with trainers imo. Slightly cropped is good when the boot shaft is high enough to cover the gap - good for rain too. I find jeans too cold once it’s under 10 degrees so probably don’t wear the combination of jeans and boots that often. I still love the skinny with knee high boot look but that is a bit of a fashion crime these days unless going horse riding.

ItsBouqeeeet · 29/07/2025 09:23

I wear black skinny jeans with my DM boots

Unicornskies · 29/07/2025 09:35

I agree, any kind of non-skinny jeans (wide leg, barrel, mom etc) just look odd on me with flat boots no matter how hard I study photos online where the model or influencer makes them look good. Flared or bootcut jeans look really good on me with heeled boots but I don't want to wear heels everyday! I really wish skinnies would come back into fashion, there was so much less to have to think about - even with tops these days I feel like I have to select really carefully according to what kind of jeans I'm wearing otherwise I just look like a frumpy uncoordinated scruff! Whereas skinnies went with pretty much anything.

isthismylifenow · 29/07/2025 09:42

I am having this dilemma right now as we are in winter, and I have not worn my boots once with jeans so far

I seem to live in my platform style trainers as that is all that I think looks right. I have wide leg jeans and still wear my Levi's Ribcage (you would have to prize these out of my dead hands), but any type of boot with them just looks wrong.

I was pleased to see the back of skinnys as they were not the best cut for me, but they were so much easier to style with different types of shoes.

Backtothebestbits · 29/07/2025 10:11

I’m watching Gilmore girls at the moment and loving Lorelai with her low rise bootcut jeans and boots, could definitely give this a go second time around 😄

TizerorFizz · 29/07/2025 20:30

@digiwidgy Really? Plenty of flared jeans around. Plenty of Chelsea boots around. Cowboy boots for this winter are back.

Hdpr · 29/07/2025 21:21

The only jeans I think look good with boots are skinnies tucked in. I know it’s supposed to be old fashioned but if the boots are new and not dated, I think it’s still ok

OopsieeDaisy · 29/07/2025 22:01

I agree! I can’t visualise any jeans/boots combos that would work with my wider leg jeans. I do still wear my skinny jeans on occasion so I imagine I’ll probably wear them more through winter with a new pair of Chelsea boots, but then again I’m also a fan of the ‘ready to mount a horse’ look 🤣

evilharpy · 30/07/2025 06:43

My chunky-soled black Grenson Nanettes look great with wide jeans. Or any jeans, really.

I wear a lot of biker and hiker style or doc martens in winter with mom jeans, I cuff the jeans at the top of the boots. Doesn't help if you're after a smarter style though.

Radioundermypillow · 30/07/2025 06:45

I think boots and jeans look a bit naff these days if im honest.

TizerorFizz · 30/07/2025 07:38

Wide legs and boots don’t really work. If you are tall and slim, these do.

Other than the tan boot one I think the others just look a bit awkward and dated (even though I know it's quite a trendy look at the moment). The look reminds me of an awkward uncle at a wedding wearing a loud shirt, big chain and Cuban heels 😂

TizerorFizz · 30/07/2025 09:22

@Unicornskies I think there are so many Jean trends so you can wear what you want. Wider jeans are everywhere but I think boot cut jeans can be very flattering and boots look good with them and certainly my uber fashionable DD owns wide jeans and flared - she wears flared jeans and heels. Likes her MxQueen boots (heels) with the flares and it’s not a dated look if you can pull it off! The boots with heels elongate legs of course but it helps that she’s a size 8.

HippoStraw · 30/07/2025 09:28

I’d try a pointed, heeled boot. It’s the round toes that look “off” with wider or bootleg jeans. The heel doesn’t need to be a thin one.

digiwidgy · 01/08/2025 06:34

I have started to like some pointed boots on Vinted to see if I can visualise a couple of outfits.
