Boys haircuts

I’m really not sure whether this is the right place for this, but I’m looking for a boys (12yo) haircut that would be:
Low maintenance
Suitable for school
Look good styled or unstyled (as in, don’t have to wax it every day and it still looks tidy)
Stylish (his friends laugh at him for having a “buzz cut” which isn’t a buzz at all but maybe too short?).

We’ve let his hair grow so there is more to do with it but it’s not long long. Just hanging over his ears and at the nape of his neck. It’s straight and brown/blonde.
I’ve tried googling all kinds but I don’t know how the kids are wearing their hair that is “cool”. I feel like such an oldie!

Short back and sides with long on top. If you Google that it will show you the different legnths it can be on the top, my DS has it quite short on the top, but still enough to play with. It looks fine grown out a bit, easy to style, suits most men, and you dont need wax every day x

Mullets are all the rage these days.

Brocolli/alpaca (short back and sides; froth on top)

Mullet with a fade at the sides (another monstrous look). You could probably get away with a more subtle form of this (shorter mullet at.back..sides just short not shaven).

My ds has super straight hair and likes sea salt spray for texture because broccoli hair is popular.

Mullet is hugely in round here. The Young Farmers have embraced it.

Thanks so much! I wasn’t sure this post was going to get much traction because style and beauty tends to be people looking for £££ bags, not scruffy teenage haircuts!!
I don’t think a mullet would be up his street but the broccoli could be the one! With sea salt spray? That’ll give it a more crunchy texture?

Yes seasalt spray is something my boys invest a lot in.

Don't be too confident that he won't like a mullet. In hindsight I didn't show my boys enough Scott and Henry from Neighbours to put them off. Maybe do some groundwork against mullets before the hairdresser.....

a low taper fade will grow out nicely but I wouldn’t bother until at least the last week of the holidays

Alpaca cut is very popular with the longer haired boys.

I do know a lot of boys now getting buzz cuts though (thankfully my son thinks they're awful) so I think they are the next in thing.

We have a wedding next Saturday so it definitely needs doing this week 😂 he can’t go as he is, he looks so untidy!

My 13 year old son sent me this photo of what he wants - a “blow out taper fade” if the image isn’t approved straight away

My 13 yo has a low taper fade with a longish fringe that he wets and curls every morning (3 seconds max). Id say most of the boys in his school have this haircut - the other half being the alpaca-style!

I’ve shown him a few and he said he likes a lot of the fade / alpaca / broccoli ones. I’ve also sent them to DD for approval but awaiting a response!
