Botox for a droopy eyelid (& SE recommendations)

boyohboys · 22/07/2025 16:11

One of my eyelids has always been slightly heavier than the other and lower brow that I correct with make-up but the lid has got noticeably worse as I've aged & I'm now quite self-conscious about it. Would Botox help lift things?? I've not had any Botox before but have been considering a light touch for my 11's as I have a permanent frown so always look cross plus get frown headaches!

Any doctor recommendations in the South East very welcome.

Get a referral from your GP . Or look on private hospitals , most consultants work for the NHS anyway.

AlwaysGardening · 22/07/2025 16:30

I have had surgery for ptosis from wearing hard contact lenses for many years. Had both done then a correction on one of them as I wasn’t quite even! Had it done on the NHS.

boyohboys · 22/07/2025 18:01

Wow thanks never knew this was a medical condition with a name. I’ll certainly take a look but would surprised if mine was deemed severe enough to be covered by NHS.

I too wore hard contact lens for many year but actually think it was caused when I had laser eye surgery 20 odd years ago so no doubt different methods used nowadays

still interested to know if Botox is an option for this (having just seen my local clinic charges £4.5k per eye!) or how @AlwaysGardening& @Messycoo you managed to get it on the NHS.

My optician wrote a letter to my GP explaining my eyelids were obscuring my vision, which they were. Was then referred to plastic surgery department of local hospital ( who fortunately are a specialist plastic surgery hospital). Was probably more than 15 years ago.

Christine1998 · 23/07/2025 19:19

I’ve had botox for the last 2 years for this. Started off just having it for my 11’s and at the side of my mouth, discussed my eye at the clinic just in conversation as i was saying how my original botox made me feel more confident and i wished i’d had it years ago, and that i wish i could sort my heavy, uneven eye out too, as i was the same as you and felt self conscious that my brows were different, they suggested a slight brow lift, that i didn’t even know was a thing, the diff was noticeable straight away, but my brows wern't still quite level, as it’s better to start off with less, i’m pleased to say they were after the next session. Best thing i ever did tbh.

I don’t suppose you’re in the south east @Christine1998and can share your doctor’s details?

Finally plucked up the courage and having Botox for this on Friday. Will report back with the results but only having a very light touch to start so might be like you @Christine1998and not noticeable to start but would rather take it slowly. I’m so excited as it makes me so self conscious I’ve now taken to wearing glasses all the time as it feels less obvious.

Good luck, I'll be very interested in your results. One of mine is slightly off, ran into a friend when I was little, had stitches, I think scar tissue from that causes it. More evident when I'm tired. Be really interested to know the cost too.
Hope it's what you're looking for and you're happy with the results.

Good luck, i’ll be interested to hear what you think, i’ve just had mine again last week and i still feel good about it, my brows are level, (i measure by my glasses 😀😂) i can still tell a diff in my eyes when i’m tired tbh but my brows being un level made my eye lid more noticeable, well to me anyway. Are you just having that one area?

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 25/08/2025 20:32

@Christine1998 I'm in the North West, more near to North Yorks. Would you recommend your dr? I'd be happy to travel.

bumblenbean · 25/08/2025 20:37

Good luck OP!

I’m sure you have, but please make sure the person you’re seeing is experienced/ well trained in the procedure as it’s a very unregulated area - and if they get the placement wrong, it can sometimes actually result in a (temporary) drooping eyelid (opposite of what you want!!)

I have quite hooded eyes. Have been having light Botox in forehead for about 18 months and the last few times she has also targeted my eyelids. I would say the difference is quite subtle - they look a little more open/ alert but obviously not as much of an effect as an eye lift etc. For me I think the issue is I just seem to have a lot of upper eyelid skin (!) rather than them being overly ‘droopy’ per se, so probably my only option for a major improvement is surgery :(

Hope it goes well- let us know how you get on!

Hi. I don’t know if this makes a difference to you, but it’s not a doctor, it is a small business by 2 nurses.

boyohboys · 25/08/2025 22:53

Thanks and yes @bumblenbeana fully qualified doctor with many years aesthetics experience that comes highly recommended.

Hi. How did the appointment go? I know its obvs too early for results as yet, but did you feel it went ok?

boyohboys · 30/08/2025 16:40

Thanks all went well - he seemed to think I should be happy with the results over the next few weeks so fingers crossed. I can’t really see much change yet and minimal bruising which is good but no worried I was too cautious and won’t even see anything for my money! . I had some under eyebrow to help lift outer eyelid area plus some in between eyebrows to lift brow plus added bonus of hopefully relaxing my 11’s (which Im very happy about but wouldn’t have Botox just for that as it doesn’t bother me too much)

TheyCallMeStacey · 30/08/2025 16:45

Can I ask where you went for the Botox? Am also in SE and would love a recommendation.

Glad you felt ok. I was surprised the diff i could see in the 2 weeks in between my appt and check up, particularly for 11’s, which in all honestly lasts well over the usual 12 weeks, i could easily leave 14/15 weeks for that area, not so much for my brows, my advice would be to take a photo now and again in a couple of weeks. X

forgot about this thread so apologies for not updating. I’m really happy with it - very subtle but my 11’s are just much more relaxed (they are deep so won’t go overnight!) and I just don’t notice my eyelid droop now which is brilliant. It’s very subtle and I had a little top up at my 2 week appointment which definitely helped. I sometimes forget I’ve had anything done it’s so subtle and my DH hasn’t noticed (nor did ky sister even when I told her!) but when I compare to photos of me 2 months ago I look less angry and no obvious droop. Will definitely be having it again.
