Thinking of buying one of these for work to carry my laptop to meetings and as a carry on bag to take on holiday. My question is whether they're durable given the canvas fabric - do they last, and can the handles stand up to carrying that amount of weight?

Catsinaflat · 22/07/2025 06:27

Yes very durable. The handles are very strong and mine is always full of lunch, work things, drinks. My current work one is over three years old and I have just spotted some wear on the corners of the bottom of the bag. Could be from wearing on my shoulder and it catching on walls (I don’t mean I walk into walls lol but when you are in a crowded station or swerving people on the street I sometimes knock it against a building!) nothing major but I bought a dark blue nail varnish to touch it up. I love mine. It’s like a Mary Poppins bag - I have everything in it!

Kelvinator1 · 22/07/2025 06:38

I love mine - had the same issues with the corners, but apparently the company will repair the corners for free but you need to return it to a store

Britpopbaby · 22/07/2025 07:29

I have ones that are ten years plus in age and are still holding up. The corners do go a little bit it doesn’t stop them being useable. I have not got one but you could try getting an insert in them to help make your bag more organised. I love the bags and have a considerable amount in different colour ways, sizes and handle lengths so I am a fan!

Wiglio · 22/07/2025 07:44

@Catsinaflat you can take your Le Pilage to a Longchamps retailer and they will repair the corners free of charge
I had mine done a couple of months ago

loveawineloveacrisp · 22/07/2025 08:08

Thanks all I'm sold. Was thinking of cream for summer, is that mad or do they wipe clean?

OP posts:
Catsinaflat · 22/07/2025 08:25

Oh wow I didn’t realise I could get the corners repaired! Thank you!
My work one is navy but I bought a cream one for the summer. No problems at all with stains so far. My navy one has had yogurts leaking and salmon salad! Just washed it out - very easy to clean!

Britpopbaby · 22/07/2025 14:20

@Wiglio Do they post them back out if you don’t live close to a Longchamp boutique?

Wiglio · 22/07/2025 14:50

@Britpopbaby not sure, I had one posted directly to me about 6 years ago but recently went to John Lewis- Longchamps concession who asked me to go in and collect it.
you may have better luck if you go to a Longchamps shop

MellowPinkDeer · 22/07/2025 14:56

My kids use them for school bags and they are still standing so I think that indicates they are pretty sturdy!! I have one I use occasionally for travel.

Have literally just ordered from John Lewis! Would rather know it's genuine.

My daughter has the navy one and has taken it to school for the last 3 years. That thing can stand a beating. She spilled tuna juice in it once (don’t ask). I washed it in the machine.

Vitrolinsanity · 22/07/2025 19:18

Mine is navy. It’s my travel handbag. Never thought about using it for my laptop. Not very cushioned.

mamansloth · 22/07/2025 19:51

Did you know you can buy inserts for them too so that you can keep things together and not have them float around in the bottom of the bag. Like a handbag organiser. You can buy whichever size matches your size bag. I got mine on Amazon. £20ish? It’s great. No more fishing around for my AirPods or keys. But still plenty of room for my laptop, book, jumper, umbrella etc to be carried around too.

Oh yes, currently browsing those! Think it would give it structure as well?

I’ve got the backpack version for work, and really like it. I find my laptop a bit heavy to put in a shoulder bag, but that’s just me.

NormaSnorks · 22/07/2025 20:12

I have one that's about 15 years old and it's been great, but the newer version is both smaller and less well made, so beware of positive reviews from people who have older versions!

I had a look at them in John Lewis and concluded that the new version wasn't worth it, and was now just a bit too small for hand luggage, so I haven't replaced it.

You seem to find anything that people are looking for on that site, don't you?

I got the large, looks plenty big enough for what I want.

I feel like I need the XS to go inside it now and as a small bag.. Anyone have that as well?

OP posts:
Softpebbles · 23/07/2025 20:45

My daughter has one for school. Used for less than 6 months and the corners have gone. Long Champ are not interested in repairing it.

Incredibly frustrating.

Haritini · 22/09/2025 22:40

My Pilage hand bag has puckered in some areas?
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
And will Longchamp repair this?

Many thanks

QuizzlyBears · 23/09/2025 06:32

I have a shoulder bag and also a much larger tote for an overnight bag, they are great and very durable.

WildCountry · 23/09/2025 19:07

You can wash in the washing machine at 30 but don’t accidentally do 40. The coating on the handles peeled off and now are plain brown and it looks like a fake!

Hoppinggreen · 23/09/2025 19:14

I have a black and a blue one. I use them on planes mostly but also for general use, had them a few years and they still look good. DD has pale pink and it does look a bit grubby
