I'm trying to sort myself out a bit and one of the things I've never figured out is a hairstyle. Realised that I've been relying on scrunchies for fourty odd years!

I so love the idea of having a well cut, easy to style look but never know what to ask for at the hairdressers. Had so many different styles over the years, I don't think very short suits me and I do like being able to tie it up ( hence my scrunchie habit! ) but would like it to have some sort of shape to it when down rather than it just dragging my face down.

It's quite fine, a little grey, my face is longish, I'm late 50's with a boho vibe.
Can anyone help me with style suggestions for hairdresser or products?

I'm sure there are apps where you can put your face in and try out different colours and styles. Hopefully someone will know of one.

@musicalfrog that's a great idea, thank you.

I'd ask for long layers with face framing bangs (and then ask the hairdresser to show you how to blow dry them backwards over a round brush to get them to sit right). Have attached photos, hope they appear!

If you have a long face I'd go with a full fringe and some face framing layers...that way if you wear it up you'll still have a bit of a hairstyle framing your face....and easy to just blow dry/straighten the fringe bit. Maybe some longer layers in the rest of the hair, but do let the hairdresser know that you still want to put your hair up.

It looks like you have nice hair. I’d just go for something choppier to add volume but keep most of the length. I’d avoid a fringe as someone suggested as imo, they rarely look good.

I know everyone here ( and my children) disapproves of Chat GPT but if you have the app you can upload a photo and ask for it to show you how you would look with some different hair colours and styles ( or 3 stone lighter in my case). This is so motivating that it's something I'm prepared to burn fewer fossil fuels for/ Carbon offset/ use a water butt/ not fly etc

Thanks all.
@SweetFancyMoses that makes sense. Choppy layers? Is that what I ask for? I seem to have had so many versions of that over the years and it's never really made any difference beyond the initial post haircut session.
I try to recreate the salon look but fail miserably.
@WombatCowgirl thanks, will give it a go.

It's hard when confidence is low, guess I'm aware of time passing and feel a bit left behind in areas.

OP you could get yourself some Olaplex No 9 Hair Serum, I use it after washing if I'm having a night out. It adds a lovely glossy sheen and weight to my hair and feels a bit fuller and 'swishy" if that makes sense.

It's not a different style by any means but you might love your current one a little more if you gave it a try?
