Styling double denim (apple shape)

Hi, i have a fitted shirt similar to this and im not sure how to make it work? Im an apple shape and initially wore it open with bootcut jeans in a similar colour and I just felt it didn't look right. Any tips to make it work as it's a great fitted shirt.

Do you live in Texas? If No, I think it is tricky to pull off double denim. Maybe open with a white vest top underneath.
