Having been blessed with the dullest, thinnest hair ever I have tried every mousse, gel, spray. Does any product really work for you?

KMS Add Volume leave in spray

simpsonthecat · 18/07/2025 20:53

Yes, that's me! And I am into products. Thin hair but everyone thinks it's thick. Nope, it's down to products.

This... for volume before drying... Bedhead small talk (good offer on Amazon at the mo). I also use mousse too.

And when dry... this... Bedhead Manipulator paste. Tiny bit on hands, rub together and put through hair.
There are plenty more pastes I can recommend if that doesn't work!

Another vote for Bedhead Smalltalk here. I got some on vinted at a great price

WingBingo · 18/07/2025 21:05

And another for bed head small talk.

truly made a difference

Colour wow carb control I think it's called. Epic volume

nahthatsnotforme · 18/07/2025 21:26

Well it’s arrived and has potential! Washed my hair in the shower tonight and rubbed a little through.. didn’t bother styling as I’ll have to do it all again in the morning but even it drying naturally it felt fuller.
Thank you!

Hair/root powder, either sprinkled at the root or mixed with a balm kind of product and scrunched in. Great for defining waves and adding texture without weight.

tellmesomethingtrue · 19/07/2025 23:27

Dry shampoo

WrinklesShminkles · 20/07/2025 15:54

Not a product but if you rinse and comb your hair while bending forwards in the shower, you get much better and longer lasting root lift than a hairdryer can give you.

PinkTonic · 20/07/2025 16:01

The Ouai shampoo for thin hair adds loads of volume. I’d had a major shed after being unwell and felt mine was flat and limp. It was more than I felt needed but several people commented on how thick and good it looked.

wineoohh · 20/07/2025 16:28

Bumble & Bumble Dryspun thickening spray, used after drying

toodledo · 20/07/2025 16:30

Are these products quite tangling though? This is where I've struggled with volume products on lots of thin hair strands - the tangly disgusting mess!

BashfulClam · 20/07/2025 16:30

The Tigi bed head stuff in a pink bottle. Half a pump into the roots and then dry hair upside down. Once dry I add some Got2be thickening powder. It’s a pain as I have hair like a toddler.

I think the root powders are excellent

Agreed. I recently found Evo Haze powder and it is great. A little goes a long way.

MontysMum909 · 20/07/2025 18:03

I second just ordinary dry shampoo- thanks to a top tip from @fraaahncesI now spray dry shampoo as soon as hair is dry and I get days of volume and non greasy roots!

I've been tempted to try Small Talk, but some reviews say it smells sickly sweet. I can't stand sweet, fruity-scented products—how bad is it?

Blondeissimo · 20/07/2025 19:38

kerastase densifique range is the best thing I’ve found. It really gives life, volume and movement to my thin, fine hair. The shampoo and conditioner are great but the mousse is amazing.

I found it to be very sweet - it put me off using it.

TheLeadbetterLife · 20/07/2025 19:39

Also, I fiddle with my hair constantly, would it be a complete waste of time to use a thickener? I feel like it would end up flattened out, as I'm always pushing it back or flipping it about—I'm a fidget.

justasking111 · 20/07/2025 19:41

Consultant told me once regular use of powders in the hair results in lung issues. He'd ban them all. Mental it to a friend who was getting asthma symptoms suddenly. She stopped using it, put clean linen on the problem vanished.

HedyPrism · 20/07/2025 19:43

Superdrug volume dry shampoo.

justasking111 · 20/07/2025 19:44

GOT2B Glued hairspray really thickens up my hair. But I don't wash it daily so it builds up. My granny used sugar water to set her curls that thickened it a lot.
