Having been blessed with the dullest, thinnest hair ever I have tried every mousse, gel, spray. Does any product really work for you?

I found it to be very sweet - it put me off using it.

Hmm, I think not then. Can't bear those "baby prostitute" scents that people cloud themselves in.

Shockwaves Volume mousse is really cheap and works well. Also as someone else has said, Superdrugs Volume dry shampoo. I’ve tried them all and this is definitely the best dry shampoo and it does give volume and body.

can definitely recommend Olaplex no 4 FINE shampoo and conditioner- I e just ordered my second lot which is unlike me as I’m normally not very loyal to products. Beware though full size is £28!!!

I use the kerastase volume one for similar hair.
I also put conditioner on my hair, get into shower and then shampoo.. it works really really well… try it.

That WOW dream cocktail - it’s brilliant

Coming back to say thankyou to those who recommended the Bed Head stuff and the powder, both of which have made a real difference, particularly the powder, which I wouldn’t have dreamt of trying

I second just ordinary dry shampoo- thanks to a top tip from @fraaahncesI now spray dry shampoo as soon as hair is dry and I get days of volume and non greasy roots!

Does this make your hair a bit powdery?

Fumnudge · 30/07/2025 18:52

Powders and dry shampoo make my head itch so I was hoping to hear the Small Talk made a big difference alone. Shame.

onehorserace · 30/07/2025 19:13

I've recently gone back to Nioxin and the effect it has is really noticeable.

Custark · 30/07/2025 19:47

I didn’t like Small Talk much, just seemed to make my hair dry and tangly. My hair is pretty dry already though as it’s highlighted.

I use Schwarzkopf Moisture Kick when wet, then when dry a baobab oil cream. Makes it look a lot less fluffy, and thicker.

LaMadrilena · 30/07/2025 20:33

I have the same problem. Do these products (not the powders) make your hair greasy? I haven't tried for years because anything I put on the roots makes it look like I haven't washed my hair in a month.

ItWasTheSaddestOfTimes · 30/07/2025 20:54

I've been using the Bed Head stuff - but the biggest change is using a curl brush loaded with mousse (just Elnett) and brushing it through from root to tip. Then scrunching it up to get some curls/waves and even without a hairdryer once it's dried it's massive. Even larger with a dryer.

Does this make your hair a bit powdery?

It does a bit on day 1 but I’m blonde/grey ish so I can get away with it but it’s fine day 2 and 3 and doing this I could even push into day 4!!! For me this is amazing as I’m a thin and greasy haired creature
