Love mums for making you feel better. Just like all of you!

I know DH was a bit Hmm when she got it done but she was " My nose , my choice , I;m an adult"
True .!

Now if I came home with a nose stud ........
( I wouldn't , I wear a mask at work and I;d probably hoik it out !)

Ezzee · 26/07/2025 20:36

Did mine 1 day when we were 16 year old apprentices and the salon had a piercing gun, 3 of us including the manager go so pissed after work one day ( he was in his 40's and having a mid-life we think).
Anyway my friend picked up the gun, I came away with 5 piercings including my nose! It was very much not the thing back then.
That was 40+ years ago, I've never not had a stud/hoop in it and still love it.

Disturbia81 · 26/07/2025 20:43

Who has told you this nonsense? You’re in your 40s ffs. But no age is too old

Awful at any age.

Keep your negative shitty vibes off this thread

I bought some of this for my DD (recommended on MN)

......................................................................................................................
Base Labs Piercing Bump Treatment/Aftercare for Scar Removal | Healing & Soothing | Keloid Shrinking Drops for Ear & Nose with Essential Oils | 15ml
.......................................................................................................................

They always say with piercings to LITHA but , nose piercings are prone to bumps and my daughter does tend to give up on her piercings and let them heal up . (Admittedly some problems have been when she's had them caught at the hairdressers <ouch> )

I told her she needs to keep the piercing in for months and if she gets a bump to calm it down and ask the piercer if she needs to change anything .

Ears heal with no mark , but nostrils I don't know . ( I know the advice is get it done you can always take it out ).
My helix and tragus have been little gits but I keep a close eye on them , salt water if I need to otherwise just keep them clean and don;t fiddle ,

Really not recommended to use anything like this on piercing bumps. Sterile saline spray or plain water only. Otherwise leave it the hell alone. Bumps will go when the source of the irritation is removed.

I agree.

Being unkind is awful at any age too, but that doesn't seem to stop you two.

I can say whatever I like on this thread, as can anyone else. There's no rule that you can only post comments saying how wonderful the OP looks.
I think nose piercings are tacky and chavvy, as are multiple ear piercings and other facial piercings. I don't like the OP's piercing but that's not because of her age. She's happy with it which is the important thing, but other people may not agree it looks good, and that's fine too.

Giving an opinion isn't being unkind. For me, the idea of any sort of piercing makes me squeamish so I hate to see them. It seems like mutilation to me and I'd avoid any unnecessary sort of bodily alteration. However, I understand that piercings are popular and that many people find them attractive. I'm not being unkind. I'm just saying how they make me feel.

Insanityisnotastrategy · 26/07/2025 21:30

It looks really good on you, I think you definitely suit a nose piercing. Can't think of any workplace where it would be a problem these days except maybe something like a royal lady in waiting 😄. Or for practical reasons like if you were an MRI scanner operator. Other than that nobody would give it a second thought really IMO.

Lookjaz · 26/07/2025 21:56

I find them repulsive. I find it extremely difficult to face people with any facial piercings/ mutilations. That is just the way I am.

Bonnylassie · 26/07/2025 22:01

Love it, yours looks great. I had mine done at 25, still wearing it and I'm in a senior role at work at 47. My gran got hers done at 70 odd and my teenager is bugging me to get hers done although her school won't allow it till 6th form.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/07/2025 22:18

Obviously it’s fine to post here if you don’t like them. I’m not offended by that. However the question was am I too old not do you like them. And it’s not aibu. Thank you for all the supportive posts. I massively appreciate this and it’s a mostly lovely thread. That’s not to say I’m bothered by the negativity each to their own. I appreciate people who have stood up against that though.

Well yeah there’s no rule. But it does make you a crap human being to try and make someone feel bad.

Punkkatkitty · 27/07/2025 09:17

Looks amazing Marmite! Well done in going for it. I have a hoop in mine this last 7 years and I’m 44. In a senior role in NHS and never had a single reference or comment on it. Also quite noticeably tattooed so I think it’s all just kind of the norm these days.

BabyCatFace · 27/07/2025 09:21

It looks very pretty! I still have my nose piercing that I got when I was 17 and I'm 45 next week. It's really common for women out age to have a single side nose piercing as it was so fashionable when we were teens which means it's definitely an age appropriate piercing! Younger people tend to have septum piercings or both sides or something more out there.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/07/2025 09:25

I had my nose pierced at 45. A few years later I stopped wearing it and there is no sign of the piercing now. I'm 70.

I know the LITHA and saline is best but my DD is prone to taking her piercings out if they go rogue then heal and re-pierce .
( Tragus x2 , forward helix x2 , cartilage /3rd lobe all taken out )

When she said she wanted her nose pierced I said to her " what if it doesn't heal as you want " meaning - you always get the hump and don't persevere but ofc she's an adult , I cannot tell her what to do.

She has had a lump and this oil did heal it in days .

Her ear piercings got caught by hairdressers unfortunately ( I have piercings so I always let them know ....and it helps if the hairdresser also has piercings , they understand ! )

I;ve had my helix get so inflammed I couldn't feel the back at all , but with saline , it settled down.

So , as an SOS solution for DD , it worked . And it was recommended on the Tattoo/Piercing threads .

@teaandtoastwithmarmite im a similar age & i have been debating a nose piercing for years but always been too chicken so you’ve defo given me more confidence to just for for it!!
Is there a certain size they have to use when it is first done cos I only want a tiny little stud-almost invisible!!

My DD stone is tiny , probably 2-3mm

The important thing is the length of post and the material - go Titanium it is least reactive
You might need to size down after the risk of swelling has past (length of post )
She has a flat back post , she said you get used to it !

That’s not a normal reaction to someone having a piercing that doesn’t affect you in any way. I’d get help with that.

Also struggling to see why you felt the need to comment on this thread and risk seeing the pictures if it bothers you so much??

Vey strange.

I think mine is quite small. He said can have anything really. My DD had the same stud in her ears but this is a smaller version so think that. I’m hoping mine is pretty small anyway!
go for it!!

Well said. These miserable judgemental toads just love getting their opinion in even when it will make someone feel bad.
