As the title suggests. I have been thinking about getting my nose pierced for a while now but at 44 am I too old?

Oooh I’m 43 and am desperate to have it done but I was worried I was too old too - and because I am in a senior position at work? Does that matter?

You're definitely not too old! And, as long as your workplace doesn't have a policy which bans facial piercings, go for it. Nose studs can be pretty subtle.

abanemare · 19/07/2025 09:25

@teaandtoastwithmarmiteAbsolutely not too old, do what you damn well want, it's your nose. Having said that, I think nose-piercings look awful whatever the age. My opinion, nothing more, you carry on

I imagine it depends on your industry.
i was a bit surprised when working for NHS 6 yrs ago, among many managers / support admin / clinicians involved with large (millions££) budgets for public services ... how many interesting tats on view.

Subtle piercings are a lot less visible than colourful tats so what I mean is that if diverse tattoos are professional enough, subtle piercings are definitely ok in that corporate world.

I was in those meetings (admin support) with a pierced nose, I only like subtle-looking nose curls anyway.

I had my nose pierced with a gun in about 1990 & definitely felt like I was stabbed but only momentarily and never had any problems with it, OP.

CleverMintHedgehog · 19/07/2025 09:31

My DM got her first piercing at 39 (also nose) - I was 15 and my class mates were terribly jealous as my DM wanted me to get one, too - they all desperately wanted one but weren’t allowed. (I still don’t have one at 40, don’t even have my ears pierced as I hate needles and chickened out as a child, lol).
Several then followed and she’s now started with tattoos in her 60s. If it makes you happy go for it!

ninjahamster · 19/07/2025 09:34

Had mine done in my 40s, went with my daughters and we all had them pierced together! It’s a bit painful but so so quick, I have a stud.

I was worried about work as well but someone has an eyebrow piercing and said no one has ever said anything, someone else joined and had a septum piercing and I overheard the supervisor asking the manager if that would be an issue. I think she emailed HR and the lady still joined. Someone else has a stud in their chin so I think I’ll just rock up with it and not say anything

Thank you. Stupid question but I can get a stud doesn’t have to be a hoop?

Absolutely no hoops should be used, no. Any piercer offering to use a hoop to piece your nose isn't competent. It needs to be fully healed before you can put a hoop in if you even want one.

Ahsheeit · 19/07/2025 11:54

Ask for a labret stud, with the flat end inside your nose as it's much harder to yank out accidentally. Had mine done for my 50th.

I think you should go for it 💜

Of course you're not! There's no evidence that skin rejects a piercing over a certain age so you're never too old. The only thing that matters is whether you want it or not.

I got mine pierced two weeks ago and I’m 58… god it hurt but I love it!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2025 13:02

Today is the day and I am constantly questioning it

Thank you @ninjahamsterim just getting anxiety about work and bei being pulled up on it. Or friends not wanting to see me anymore. DH says I’m being silly and he thinks it will look great

My Godmother is 73 and still wears her gold nose ring, red lippy and converse.
She's quite eclectic so really pulls it off.

DD had hers done a few weeks back ( piercer at tattoo artist) flat backed stud . Tiny cz stud in titanium .
She loves hers , it cannot be that painful as DD isn't a fan of needles but piercing/tattoo needles are different (obvs Grin)

I am 59 and though I sometimes think about it , I have the wrong shape nostrils .

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2025 14:55

I keep worrying I’ll be judged and my friends won’t speak to me anymore and work will be annoyed even though someone has a piercing below their mouth and another on their eyebrow. Anyway it’s in 2 hours so I’m probably doing it. This is what chat gpt showed me

Get the piercing! I'm 46 with two sparkly nose hoops and I love them. Had one since I was 16, the other 9 years. If you have friends who will stop speaking to you over a piercing, then that's the sign of a bigger problem and them being complete shallow idiots

If work pulls you up on it, I'd say you checked the policy (if you have one) and there's nothing about piercings. Also, plenty of other people have them.❤️

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2025 15:14

It just says no elaborate jewellery or something like that but it’s from 2018 and says no jeans or trainers and everyone wears them. Also someone has a septum piercing and I remember when she started overhearing a conversation about asking hr if it was ok and she carried on working there

clearveil · 25/07/2025 15:16

If you fancy it get it done. I had it done at 17 and bloody hated it, I still have trauma from the pain and suffering it caused me. So beware it doesn't always work out but style wise if you fancy it then go for it.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2025 17:45

Really? Thank you. He said to do it on the right as the left is a tiny bit lower or higher. Think it was lower and it would look better on the right. He said hopefully you’ll get compliments at work. I’m just hoping for it to go unnoticed 😆
