If you were short and fat, what would you wear? 5ft 2, size 16…

I’m looking for inspiration after years of wearing baggy tops and leggings. I have lost a few stone recently and finally feel more confident about what I’m wearing. I am finding it so hard to put outfits together though. I have a couple of pairs of wide leg jeans, some skinnies (although trying to avoid as too similar to old legging look), some black and white print trousers and that’s it . I’m leaning towards T-shirts with everything but would prefer to look slightly smarter sometimes.

What would I wear at 5’2, size 16?

Probably the same as I wear at 5’3 size 12.

So in the summer a conglomeration of mostly old cotton or linen shirts from Margaret Howell or other shirt makers, with the odd top from Zara. Old skirts from MH, La Fetiche, Sofie D’Hoore. Clumpy boots or T bar shoes from Grenson, + ancient mules from long defunct cobblers.

In winter, everything buried under an enormous tweed coat, the most recent from the men’s section of Toast. Endless knitwear from La Fetiche, Studio Nicholson, Marni. An old velvet jacket. Translucent skirts from Zara. The same clumpy boots, or knee high boots, most recently from Legres.

There honestly isn’t anything that I’d have to stop wearing if I put on weight. I’d just buy bigger sizes - as all the places I’ve mentioned offer a size 16.

🤷‍♀️

Not enough info OP, depends on the body shape! Big boobs, slimmer legs? - jeans (straight or boot cut) with bat wing top or shirt over cami. Nice belt. Or linens/trousers with fitted waist and hip.
Pear shaped - barrel jeans, slimmer tops (wide neck t shirt).

If you’ve got a waist show it off. Dresses are also good if you want to hide say fat legs. Lots of advice on YouTube.

I think that’s fair but not quite the same as ending up a size 16 from a 24 because there absolutely were things I wouldn’t wear at that size that I will now. I guess when I went up in size to a 16 I probably wore the same as I had before but that was over 30 years ago now so have not really experienced ’style’ for a long time!

Thanks for your recommendations of once to look at; I haven’t heard of a few of them so will check them out’

Really fat round the middle still; the bit from waits up to Bobby’s sticks out a fair bit and my belly hangs down. Boobs probably considered ‘big’ at 38F? But they are small to me as previously 44/46G! My upper bit around shoulders and arms is much thinner and my legs are getting there! I am looking into getting some dresses and have just picked up some barrel jeans to try too. Thank you!

That’s a fair point!

Could you suggest a budgetary jumping off point? (I’m in my sixties and (after fifty years of in person shopping) buy almost all my clothes online and avoid legacy high street shops from the 80s / 90s - but that doesn’t mean all my clothes are MH prices.

is fun, demonstrates exemplary ethics, and is great for casual / smart casual wear.

Makes the most beautiful clothes - going up to a size 16 (though somewhat dependent on your proportions).

Ok so sounds as though you are an apple shape. Google that and see what’s suggested Smile

Following dressedtothemax on Instagram. She is 5ft 2 and 58, She has lost weight and still on her journey but always looks fabulous ever since I started following her. I am 69 and 5 foot. Always struggled with weight but always loved clothes. I definitely didn't wear the same clothes when I was size 14/16 as I do at size 8/10. It was always about hiding my tummy. I lost 11 inches from my waist after losing 2 and a half stone. Enjoy buying some nice clothes. There are some good threads on here that are supportive and helpful. Maybe start a new thread thats a bit more specific to your needs and mention weight loss journey..Lots of peoole on here that have lost weight and looking to restyle. Best of luck and enjoy!
