Brown hair box dye

Can anyone recommend a box dye for mid brown hair that firstly, doesn’t turn my hair almost black but secondly, doesn’t go immediately brassy and red tinged ?! Thank you !!

I hate to be the ‘watching’ person, but op am in the same position. I think some hair just takes dye too quickly and you have to make sure not to go for an anyway too dark colour or leave in too long (by even minutes!)

Same problem, I only use semi permanent as too scared to do it permanent.
But If I leave it on for the specified time it goes almost black. Leave it on less time and it doesn’t cover the grey or even the brown !

Same - even permanent fades within 3 weeks

Hi, @Megcan I’m a huge fan of Clairol Root Touch Up. You have to leave it on for longer than the ten minutes it says on the box, but it’s brilliant. The colours on the box are pretty close to the colour you get.

I have naturally mid-dark brown hair and I use Clairol 4g or 5g. Sometimes I mix the shades together. I probably prefer the lighter shade, but the darker one does fade after a couple of washes.

Now my grey is a bit more than just covering roots, I sometimes use two boxes at a time and just pull it through from the roots downwards.

I found my ideal shade(s) thanks to reviews on Amazon, where some kind people had helpfully posted pictures of their hair.

It’s sometimes on offer in Boots or on Amazon.

eSalon works well for me. I use darkest brown/gold and it literally just gives me a slightly richer version of my own hair colour.

Try esalon. It’s the only one I’ve found that doesn’t immediately go red or make you look like Morticia. It’s slightly more expensive but it lasts well and you can tailor the colour to make it more suitable to your preferences
