I’ve just checked out Facebook after not being on for a while and a memory popped up from a family holiday 11 years ago. I realised I was wearing a Boden jersey dress I bought for that holiday, which I’ve worn loads over the years and I got out recently and still felt it was ok condition wise to wear. (Although to be fair, I’ve gained a bit of weight and it doesn’t look as good anymore.)

I bought another Boden summer jersey dress a couple of years ago and it’s nowhere near as good, probably will be retired soon.

So, where on the high street /not designer prices, could I get such decent quality stuff? It feels like in my middle age, I should have lots of pieces like that dress.

(Or is my old Boden dress the unicorn of frocks?)

I think it’s all about the care whilst laundered. I have t shirts from Primark that are 15 years old. And a gorgeous jacket from Select that is 30 years old.

I don't think you can find high street clothes (or much else really) that's the quality of things 10 to 15 years ago. I shop in charity shops now and look out for old stuff, often still with labels in. It feels so much better than new things.

Today I've been sorting out old paperwork. Letters from the bank 15 years ago were on better quality paper than the latest ones. Even matches now are thin and rubbish. Everyone's after making money not quality.

Palava isn't high street but most stuff with the exception of their wool knitwear and tweed jackets is under £200 and just never wears out. The heritage wool knitwear is indestructible.

I agree about taking care of clothes. Dresses do not have to be washed after every wear and I handwash them. Wool knitwear needs only a very occasional handwash- once a year is enough and what the high end brands recommend.
