I see Seraphine has gone into administration.

I thought their clothes were a bit drab to be honest, but there is so little provision for maternity clothes it’s probably an overall loss for those looking for them!

What are other good newer brands for maternity clothes?

That's a shit, I loved their clothes while I was pregnant, I've still got some of their dresses tbh.

Inthesmallclouds · 09/07/2025 00:48

Their clothes were awful and frumpy plus really expensive

LemondrizzleShark · 09/07/2025 01:07

Oh shame, I really loved their work dresses (almost a decade ago!)

H&M had decent maternity stuff at the time as well, try them? Obviously a step down in price/quality, but good for basics.

summertimeinLondon · 09/07/2025 01:28

Oh that’s a shame— I had some of their dresses when I was pg. To be honest though, their original USP was those drapey faux-Issa jersey dresses that went out of fashion a while ago, so they may have been flailing a bit. (I still have a couple of the dresses I think - the jersey was really good quality at the time.)

I just saw this news and think its incredibly sad. They were brilliant for corporate wear when I was pregnant (both times). For some reason, so many brands seem to think that women dont want proper trousers / smart tops or smart dresses when pregnant? We still have to go to work!

They went up to a size 18 - so many maternity clothes stop at a 16 pre pregnancy size. So much of it was also bf friendly - some of my dresses i wore for 3.5ys through pregnancy with DC1, bf, then pregnancy with DC2 and bf.

I also really liked that they used a lot of natural fibres - bamboo, viscose etc.

I saw so many comments online under a social media post about them closing, saying "why would you pay that much when you can just buy from shein", which is so unbelievably depressing given shein's polyester crap, dubious ethics and questionable labour practices.

StacieBenson · 10/07/2025 13:15

Really sad to see this - I bought quite a bit from them as their clothes were also set up for breastfeeding/babywearing and they were really good quality. I tried to buy maternity jeans from M&S for my second pregnancy and they were permanently sold out. Would be interested to hear if there's any other good maternity clothes shops out there.

JaneyG1 · 10/07/2025 16:47

I have also just seen that they have gone into administration, I am pregnant at the moment and am tearing my hair out at the maternity clothing options out there, especially as a tall person, there’s not much out there that fits properly. I have had some good trousers from Lovall recently and otherwise I’ve just had to go on Vinted.

TerrazzoChips · 10/07/2025 16:56

I loved Seraphine for workwear and good quality bf friendly bamboo t shirts. I still wear their postpartum jeans many years on!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 10/07/2025 17:00

I aways wanted to like something enough to buy it when I was pregnant, but didn’t so I’m not surprised really.

Artinsurance · 10/07/2025 17:35

I loved the jersey knot dresses but many of them were above the knee which I didn’t really feel comfortable in. The quality was good.

Agreed - I had loads of work clothes from them when I was pregnant. All second-hand, though, which I accept wasn't great for Seraphine's bottom line...

For some reason MN always seems to be a bit snotty about the very concept of maternity clothes, with people insisting it's much better to just wear normal clothes bigger. Which is maybe ok if you are going to live in big t-shirts and elasticated trousers, but like you I still had to go to work when pregnant!

AngeloMysterioso · 10/07/2025 17:43

I’ve still got all my seraphine dresses from when I was pregnant- they were so flattering and comfy! And I still wear my 3 in 1 winter coat, I love it so much- it’s like a big old sleeping bag with sleeves

LividVermiciousKnid · 10/07/2025 17:48

Had a maternity wedding dress from there.

Got divorced and Vinted it. But loved that dress.

Aaah I always assumed that was an “I’m so teeny tiny” boast, that they didn’t need to wear special maternity clothes because normal clothes just hung off them anyway! Grin

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 10/07/2025 20:52

I was going to say Isabella Oliver, but it’s already been said. I had several of their dresses for work.

Also Me&Em palazzo pants are THE comfiest maternity pants. The super soft roll top waistband means you can wear them the whole way through and afterwards too. I pretty much lived in them.

NW3Lady · 10/07/2025 21:08

This is really disappointing to hear as I’ve had some nice pieces from them (although I certainly didn’t love all their stuff).

Isabella Oliver was my next choice but I’m another who struggled to find maternity wear which worked out well for me.

BakeOffRewatch · 10/07/2025 21:28

I loved the brand for when I was really pregnant and my skin felt too sensitive, all very soft to touch. I bought loads from there last year. I thought they were doing really well design wise. I only bought items in block colours, I don’t like floral cutesy prints which a lot of their stuff was.

The best maternity stuff I bought was from Australia. I bought it from multi brand store Preggi Central https://preggicentral.com/ it all arrived pretty quickly in COVID and the stuff I bought is going strong five years on. Australian brands seem to have lots of good quality cotton that isn’t paper thin. Legoe Heritage is a lovely luxe casual brand, I love their colours. No cutsey prints! https://legoeheritage.com/collections/new-arrivals. I like Ripe Maternity too, think they’re good for workwear https://www.ripematernity.com/collections/new-in . Didn’t buy any from these brands this time round as I went to the Seraphine store.

Next online had some maternity cotton vest style dresses but they were always out of stock! No idea if they were good quality. None of the shops stock them in the stores so it’s really hard to find some thing worth spending on.

MrsKateColumbo · 10/07/2025 21:41

I loved their workwear but bought on Ebay as they were ££ for a shirt term item..

RedPandaFluff · 11/07/2025 06:59

Their coats were great - I have the 3-in-1 winter parka and a raincoat that have the removable panels for bump then baby carrier. Wore them loads. Must get them on to Vinted, my baby days are over!

Piglet89 · 12/07/2025 06:56

Private Equity in “ripping the business apart and profiting from it” shocker.
