Do you think I can get away with this dress for Europe this summer ? I am almost 59. Size 10 (hope it fits haven't received it yet). I’m now thinking the print is quite young ? Thanks for your input

I don't think anything is too young for anyone - it all depends on the essence of someone.

I would have never looked good in that style as it's prettiness would have made me look manly regardless of my age. If there's a "girliness" about you, this will look pretty on you.

Check the links provided. Amazon appears to be offering the exact same dress in polyester for £26. The original is £400. Nothing ugh about it.

I do wonder if the pictures of that dress on Amazon are of the original dress and that if you ordered the Amazon one it would look nothing like it.

ScratCat · 04/07/2025 18:20

It’s gorgeous. Not too young at all.

Bogocz1 · 04/07/2025 20:55

It's lovely and I wish I was still a size 10

Of course I'm not. People can spend their money as they see fit. Says me sitting here in my £5 t-shirt from Asda ! 🤣😁🤣

Probably created in a sweatshop.

I think if you can afford to it's a moral imperative to buy clothes that pay the creators a decent wage.

And I don't mean spending on luxury brands either, I'm dubious about where a lot of it is sourced from, just as much as Asda.

MadKittenWoman · 04/07/2025 23:05

Why would you be too old for it? I’m 63 and have bought this co-ord for my holidays…

With you @MarxistMags.
I don’t get why paying £400 for a dress equates to getting better quality/ fewer items.
Clearly people with money will spend £400 in the same way people with less money spend £40 and others £4.
Style and Beauty is also about atheistics. There’s some horrendous stuff out there at stupid prices. There’s no rule that says clothes over a certain amount are made ethically either. It certainly doesn’t follow that £400 buys you “quality”. A lot of pricing is is the label, nothing more.

Well, sometimes, but not everyone is the same customer with the same habits or same budget. Some people have absolutely tons and can buy these things like most people could buy Shein, but many people haven't and it's just what they spend their disposable income on and they eschew other things to afford it. Do you think everyone who's ever bought something from Shein has the exact same budget and spending habits?

As to quality, while rip-offs certainly exist, it should be obvious that an exclusively designed item, made from quality fabrics by highly skilled individuals making fewer pieces will cost more to make than mass produced polyester churned out of a sweatshop. An expensive item isn't automatically high quality and ethically made, but if it is both those things, then it will necessarily have cost a certain amount to produce.

But MarxistMag wasn"t making any point. It was just a snide, pointless remark about who spends £400 on a dress.

Asda is probably alright, SHEIN I would be dubious about but then big names like Nike and Adidas probably get made in a sweat shop somewhere and pay the staff a pittance

onehorserace · 05/07/2025 12:40

It's very of this season. These type of prints are available at all prices. I like it!

It’s lovely, I wish I could ever be a size 10! Wear it with a smile and enjoy it!

Bogocz1 · 05/07/2025 14:58

Better to have new been a size 10 than have been one and got menopause weight that won't come off lol

Why do you think a 12, or a 14 or a 16 can't wear it. Alémais make their dresses up to UK 16.

Glittertwins · 05/07/2025 17:00

I think you misunderstood me. I meant I wish I could be a size 10, I never have been

Theseventhmagpie · 05/07/2025 17:04

Great dress, good choice 👍

SameDayNewName · 05/07/2025 19:15

I thought the dress was going to be a lime green micro-dress, made out of net of net or something!

It's a lovely dress OP - elegant and on-trend, without being mutton.

Shein products are very likely made in a Uyghur concentration camp - don't be under any illusions!
