Pyjama bottoms as trousers?

springintoaction321 · 01/07/2025 17:59

I saw some nice pyjama bottoms with a bright geometric pattern and wondered if I could get away with wearing them as summer trousers. Only £12 as well 😄

Hmm, probably not. Where are they from? Do you have a pic?

Sprig1 · 01/07/2025 18:03

I don't see why not.

springintoaction321 · 01/07/2025 18:08

@RobertaFirmino sorry no pics but what makes you think not?

springintoaction321 · 01/07/2025 18:09

They looked quite loose, and like baggy trousers

It's fine.
All my "trousers" are technically pj bottoms except one pair which ironically has an almost identical pattern to one of the pjs.
Although this is Mumsnet where apparently wearing a pair of pj bottoms (ie a pretty pattern/colour lightweight material pair of trousers) out in public is the ultimate sin.
God knows why.
They are just trousers 🙄

Emotionalsupporthamster · 01/07/2025 18:14

Depends on the trousers! The light stripey wide leg trousers that are in just now are everywhere and they all just look like PJs.

Brefugee · 01/07/2025 18:15

all patterened, lightweight, summer trousers look like PJ bottoms.

Needmorelego · 01/07/2025 18:18

@RobertaFirmino I expect the OP means something like these.
One of these are PJ bottoms, one is trousers. Both from Asda. Can you tell which is which just from the picture?

@Needmorelego 😅 that was my thinking but didn't know if they'd be too 'thin' but heck I should have just got them - might go back in a couple of days

@springintoaction321 as long as you don't wear black knickers under a white/cream pair....no one will know 😂🤫

BatFaceChops · 01/07/2025 18:25

Oh just wear them. I’m wearing a matching linen shirt and shorts today - they’re pyjamas but I just wear them as a Co-ord

nobody gives me a second glance

My photos haven't shown up.
I guess the photo checker is confused by the difference 😂

Vodkamartini3olives · 01/07/2025 18:48

Go for it. The majority of trousers in stores at the moment look like PJ's anyway.

henlake7 · 01/07/2025 19:05

What the hell. I bought a pair of blue stripey pj bottoms planning to wear them out.
Just go for it!

Jess Cartner-Morley was wearing (ridiculously expensive) pyjamas to (probably posh and fashiony parties) back in 2016. She says it's fine, but not in Milan (Italians being more traditional or having higher standards, depending on your perspective) and that walking around outside in them feels weird (she was wearing a PJ jacket as well as the trousers, mind).

Can you really wear pyjamas to a party?

The new rules are: there are no rules. But is it really OK to wear lingerie to the office or a tracksuit to the shows? Jess Cartner-Morley rips up the dress code

All these wide stripey trousers look like PJ s. My friend turned up in them and I thought WTF. They remind me sadly too of concentration camp uniforms.

BestIsWest · 01/07/2025 19:43

Haha, I was wondering this aloud to DH yesterday when wearing a fantastically light and airy pair of Seasalt cotton pyjama bottoms. Really, who would know? Unless they shopped in the same place. They just looked like flowery wide legged trousers.

RobertaFirmino · 01/07/2025 22:14

Given that the green pair are being worn with shoes, I'd say the other pair are the pj bottoms. Other than that, the drawstring in the green pair has metal ends which you don't really see on night wear whilst the drawstring on the other pair is very obviously nightwear.

I think that the fabric can often give the game away too.

Having said that, my opinion is just that - an opinion. It's not fact. Some people will agree that you can often tell, others will be of the opinion you can't. The only opinion that really counts is your own, OP. If you like them, get them because even if you decide not to wear them outside you're always going to need things to wear in bed.

Needmorelego · 01/07/2025 22:19

@RobertaFirmino the shoes with the green pair look like sliders which a lot of people wear as indoor shoes instead of slippers....
😂

Chinsupmeloves · 01/07/2025 22:23

Lounge wear these days are basically PJ bottoms really unless velvet??

Not telling 😛

MouldyCandy · 02/07/2025 00:05

I would say, "yes, absolutely". In H&M at the mo, there is a whole section of pyjama bottom style trousers. I was tempted by a floral pair.

Would say green are the trousers 🤷‍♀️

CatsnCoffee · 03/07/2025 02:27

My very fashion-conscious 16 year old DD bought a pair of striped PJ bottoms 2 days ago, specifically to wear out.
