Sorry, just had to share this insane pair of shoes. The Row. Basically a load of elastic hairbands and a strip of leather. For £890!!!!! Sorry, but if you’re spending that kind of money on these there is something wrong with you when you could just purchase a much cheaper pair and help a charity out with the rest of that money. It’s absolutely disgusting!

100% polyester!

Fools and their money , you would have to be bonkers

CheerfulBunny · 30/06/2025 14:39

Ooh, my arches ache just looking at that. Flat as a pancake. And the lumpy end of a grand? OK then...🤔

Jackreacherstrousers · 30/06/2025 14:45

Have you looked at the rest of the site......it's all ridiculously priced.
My prices are in euros so I might be seeing different stuff but who pays 780€ for foam rubber flip flops🤦‍♀️
I choke at paying over 40€ for my skecher flip-flops for goodness sake!

MollyRedSkirtsChandler · 30/06/2025 14:49

🤣

They don't even try to make it sound fancy. Colour: 'Mud'

BedlingtonTerrierOwner · 30/06/2025 14:50

I reckon I could make a pair of these myself with a pair of insoles and some hair ties. Less than a fiver if anyone is interested?

DancingNotDrowning · 30/06/2025 14:51

The row has some beautiful, beautiful clothes. And yes they are very expensive.

Whilst the sandals aren’t for me, there are plenty of items on that site I adore and I don’t think we ought to be shaming women for spending money on things they love. Much less going full “I’d buy a bench” and suggesting they’re disgusting for not giving everything to charity whilst wearing sack cloth and ashes.

The sandals that @Chachacha2 linked are showing as €1,040 for me... and the red are sold out!

TheOliveFinch · 30/06/2025 15:10

@DancingNotDrowning they might have good quality fabrics but I would struggle to call much on their website beautiful in fact a lot of it looks like very expensive sackcloth and ashes

You could probably get a sack cloth to wear for a few grand on that site.

ShoeeMcfee · 30/06/2025 15:12

I quite like them. Ok, I wouldn't buy them, but if someone wants to buy them, that's their choice.

Screamingabdabz · 30/06/2025 15:14

Yep totally agree op. Anyone buying them at that price needs to get their head checked.

Well I guess it’s in the eye of the beholder. I think the cuts and tailoring are beautiful in a classic understated manner.

It’s like the concept of the emperor’s new clothes £1600 for this, really only aimed at people who have more money than they know what to do with

Sorry, the original shoes are indeed showing as 1040€ for me as well.
It was the ones linked above that were 780€...they look like my Primark pool flip flops 😲

fanmepls · 30/06/2025 16:20

It's The Row, stealth wealth!

owlexpress · 30/06/2025 16:20

It's The Row. You're paying for the brand, for the marketing and the designing that's gone into it. Of course it's for people who have huge amounts of money, some people are paying less than that for their whole holiday, never mind their holiday sandals. But some people do have that money. You might be willing to pay £89 for sandals, whereas someone on a lot less money would only pay £8.90. It's all relative, but unless you shun all material goods, you can't throw the 'that could have gone to charity' line around.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 30/06/2025 18:03

I've been looking for an immaculate, plain, black Kristin Scott-Thomas as Mrs Danvers dress for quite some time and the only one I've seen which is exactly what I want is this one from The Row. What's stopping me is I'd need a US 14, not the price. The dress is wool and silk, lined in silk and the shape is just perfect.

The Row black dress

TheOliveFinch · 30/06/2025 18:22

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle that is lovely but lots of people still wouldn’t pay that no matter how much money they had. That is one of the few things on their website that shows the quality of their tailoring.

Weepixie · 30/06/2025 18:25

I like them but wouldn’t pay that amount of money for them. I’d look for a cheaper version and I’d not be giving any money I’d saved to charity.

zaxxon · 30/06/2025 18:41

When you see price inflation like that, it's worth asking where the money is going to.

Majority shareholders in The Row are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the former child actors. They're not short of a bob or two; in fact, according to Wikipedia, "As of 2024, she and Mary-Kate have an estimated combined net worth of US$500 million."

Other big shareholders include Alain and Gérard Wertheimer, who own Chanel (26th and 27th richest people in the world), and Francoise Bettancourt Meyers (L'Oréal), the second richest woman in the world.

No matter how nice the product, I wouldn't want a single penny of my money going to any of them.

manicpixieschemegirl · 30/06/2025 18:48

The shoes in question are 100% polyester, which makes me suspicious of the ‘made in Italy’ claim. Many designers have their pieces manufactured in sweat shops in Asia but can claim they were made in Europe because that’s where the label was put on, or even just the packaging done.

IamEarthymama · 30/06/2025 18:54

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle
That dress is gorgeous, can a dressmaker copy it for you?

Re the sandals, well, I’m wearing Crocs so my taste will be questioned on here, but there must be some secret signal that goes out to other rich people because I would have thought they were from the market.

Gettingbysomehow · 30/06/2025 19:00

It was created by those miserable looking Olsen twins so no wonder.

TuttiFruittiSweets · 30/06/2025 19:25

Ya well, someone will buy them. More money than sense some folk.
