Hi, I just hought guys fabulous skirt from Mango: https://shop.mango.com/gb/en/p/women/skirts/long/flared-cotton-skirt_17011273?c=70&talla=22&srsltid=AfmBOoq5XUtSoZ_3Xvi7UKuN3Xt2-uedFqpmhtS5dcyfBUYr_ok7vj6J8iw.

I don’t want to wear it with a crop top, what can I wear it with instead? I don’t like showing my upper arms so I’m looking for a short sleeved top or similar. The skirt has a lot of volume in the flesh and it’s beautiful, I just want to make it justice.

This, tucked in?

Community Clothing pink

Or this?

American Vintage red

Or this slightly dressier option:

Cos white

I’d go for one of the tie front tops that are really popular at the moment. This is one at M&S but there are plenty of this style elsewhere.

Thanks! I’m not sure about a regular t-shirt, but floral is not for me. Out of all suggestions, I probably prefer the Cos top.

There’s loads like the floral one in plain colours if you google. They’re in every shop. Also mango has some nice waist length tank tops, not cropped. I’ll find the link

This is a cute look.

That picture is just to show you the style, there are plain, gingham and embroidered versions of this type of top everywhere.

For me, the softer, less structured, pretty tops detract from the line of the skirt. I would go for a semi-structured, shell-style or box top in a plain block colour, that just about meets the top of the skirt.

I'd also avoid tucked in, and covering the top of the skirt, as it will lose much of its impact.

Maybe something like this, but possibly with less volume. Maybe this?

Basically, I'd try to keep the clean lines and blockiness - it's a great skirt.

Oh I’ve just bought that skirt in white! I will wear it with my new long waistcoat from Nobody’s Child. I had the skirt on today with a slouchy pale blue cashmere t shirt tucked into the front from me and Em with bright blue trainers. Got lots of compliments. I’ll try and link both tops.

I can definitely see how both of those would work.

Cheesesteakyum · 29/06/2025 14:24

this would be nice in either the red or the peach colour. Either tucked in or what would he really nice is to get it altered so it’s shortened and sits just on the waist of the skirt, I have a slightly cropped t shirt like this which looks really nice with high waisted skirts / jeans / trousers.

Flamingoknees · 29/06/2025 16:04

Needs something short and boxy - don't have to be cropped.

NigellaWannabe1 · 29/06/2025 19:42

I love some of these suggestions, thanks! I particularly like the beautiful pale blue cashmere top and the Uniqlo t-shirt.

For French chic look , I’d go with lighter weight white cotton shirt
maybe with slightly rolled up sleeves

sunshinechaser · 30/06/2025 07:24

@NigellaWannabe1I also carefully cut the stitching on both sides of the elastic waistband and cut the Mango tag off so the elastic sits flat against my waist. It looks much more flattering this way

I love this idea for creating a flat waistband!

@sunshinechaser I don’t understand the bit about the Mango tag though, what does that mean? Please put me out of my misery, I’ve tried to figure it out!

sunshinechaser · 30/06/2025 16:58

The skirt is designed to sit with the elastic waistband rolled inside itself and therefore the waistband is bulky. When I cut away the two sides of the skirt fabric attached to the waistband it means the skirt can lie flat against your waist with little bulk. That also means however the shop tag (Mango) is then on the outside of the waistband at the back and is visible so I cut the tag off too.

WhatdoesitmeanKeith · 30/06/2025 17:20

@sunshinechaser thank you!
