Swimwear to wear with frozen shoulder.

I love swimming. But I have a frozen shoulder so I've stopped going - even if just to bob around in the water - as I can't face putting my swimsuit on.

Frozen shoulder is excruciating and long-term, I literally can't move my elbow away from my body, rotate my arm or pull up my pants. Any suggestions of something I don't have to wrestle into or out of greatly appreciated please!

God, I had this - excruciating! I can't recommend a swimming costume, but I can recommend a procedure called hydrodilatation (saline / steroid injection) to improve / fix it. It was like a bloody miracle! Instant relief. After this, you can wear anything you want.

@Itsasintokillamockingbird thanks, I'm so lucky it's my second one... Had hydrodilation three times last time as the adhesions were so severe. Desperate to do anything to help me not get into that horrible emotional blackness I sank into last time, swimming would help if only like Nemo with a wonky arm!

Diagnosis was formalised today but it's been sneaking up for a while, hoping I'm still in the period a steroid injection might work this time!

Don’t you just need to find a standard costume with a low back & straps but no clasp/bra type fastenings? If you put your bad arm in first & maybe buy a slightly bigger one so it’s a bit more roomy

you have my total sympathy though - 3 years I was told when mine was diagnosed - can’t believe it now but I am definitely on the home strait 2.5 yrs in thank goodness x

Baggy swim shorts that you can put on yourself one armed, and bikini top done up by someone else?

MyJoyousTraybake · 25/06/2025 00:20

Meant to add, hope steroid injection works for you. Just the words frozen shoulder makes me shudder thinking of the pain I was in.

A two piece with the top having a zip all the way down? That would be easier to put on than a normal one where you might have to raise your arms more?

When I had a frozen shoulder I could put on a bra by fastening at the front over my belly, then pulling up and spinning it round with my good hand/arm. Would that work for a bikini top?

BitOutOfPractice · 25/06/2025 07:54

I think a roomy one piece you could put your bad arm in first would be worth a try.

i also send my sympathies. The pain and the restriction is just horrible. Hope you get some relief soon.

I have this problem! Halter-neck you can tie then put overhead.

Maybe but even pulling a bra around is hard fresh out of the shower, shuffling a wet bikini round just won't work - it really is indescribably painful to move my arm/shoulder

Ooooh I like this idea, and the zip top bikini. Gonna look a right plank in loose swim shorts that I can get up/down one-handed, mis-matched top and a float doing lengths in the pool at work...!

Good point re. wet. The pain really is awful, I'm sorry you're going through it a second time.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/06/2025 09:04

I agree that the halter neck is a GREAT idea! I wish I’d thought about that!

Whi cares what you look like? Just getting into the water will be bliss. Good luck!

Hmmm. Front fastening halterneck that I can also use on holiday (so not to have wierd tan lines) seems to be quite the unicorn...
