Fake tan that doesn't stink?

AptAptAptApt · 23/06/2025 14:24

Looking for recommendations for a tan that doesn't have that musty burnt biscuit smell. Or without any smell at all if possible.

Does such a thing exist? It can be Instant or developing, I like both.

Preferably one that doesn't break the bank.

Yes, I'd like to know that too!

Chocaholic1216 · 23/06/2025 14:34

I would also like to know. I use Bondi Sands or St Moriz and they both give me a nice colour but really stink for the first 48 hours

The Garnier gradual tan body lotion just smells of apricots. The Clarins tanning milk has a decent non fake tan smell too.

Bought DH the Coco and Eve one as didn't like the smell of the Bondi Sands one he was using and it smells even worse but they both smell pretty strictly (both mousse).

I've tried the Garnier one before and it did smell nice when applying however it still had that weird smell once it developed on the skin.

Same with the dove and similar developing tans.

I’m pretty sure that there’s a chemical reaction between my skin and any fake tan. Every one I’ve tried in the last 40 years smells odd, even when people say they have a lovely smell or are scent less; I've even tried the drops in my own moisturiser - still stunk. I have to apply it the night before and shower again in the morning before I’d go out smelling like it does on me. You might be the same.

EverythingIsComputer · 23/06/2025 15:10

Surely it’s the active ingredient that makes the smell otherwise someone would have come out with one that doesn’t smell?!

I've found St Tropez on a Boots £10 Tuesday deal. Its the mousse version. No horrible biscuit smell at all.

Harry12345 · 23/06/2025 18:33

Bondi sands is great

Daffodillly · 23/06/2025 18:36

I use St Tropez express mousse and that doesn’t smell!

Same here.

Also interested. I cannot stand the smell and my nose picks up on it for such a long time afterwards on me or on anything I’ve touched!

I’m interested in trying the Gatineau gradual tan but I’m suspicious of those saying it smells good. I fell for that with marine collagen reviews saying it’s not smelly (it does have a bit of a whiff) but as I’ve paid so much for it, I happily gulp down my fishy cup of tea whilst my brain tries to distract itself from the idea that I’m sucking on an old wetsuit. 🐟

OhYeahOhYeah · 23/06/2025 18:49

Ah you can’t escape it, it is the chemical reaction of the DHA and your skin’s amino acids, sadly

3awesomestars · 23/06/2025 18:53

I use skinny tan gradual tan, I find that doesn’t smell and no streaks!

It does smell and also rather orange in tone, I found!

I have found St Moriz face drops added to body lotion works well provided you can moisturise evenly (as they are clear)

I buy a 50ml bottle from Amazon for about £6

St Moriz Original Concentrated Tanning Drops

St Tropez express for me, I pop it on on a Sunday eve with a mitt, do the ironing and then shower it off about 2hrs later. I always shower in a morning too so there’s def no smell by the time I’m getting ready for work on Monday morning.
Gorgeous colour and easy to apply, I’ve tried looooads over the years and this is my fave

Bondi sands gradual tan is amazing. Smells lovely, reminds me of holiday. And you just slap it on and rub it in like a moisturiser then wake up a gorgeous colour, no streaks!

AnotherDayanotherNameChangeX · 23/06/2025 23:11

Currently got Gatineau gradual tan on, applied it at 8pm and I am stinking!!!

That’s interesting. So, does this tie in with my thinking that no matter what fake tan I use, I’ll always have the weird smell - but others won’t because they have a different combination of amino acids?

Could be!
