Deodorant that actually works please

Dd who is 12 has found that Salt of the Earth and Fussy do not do the job. Can anyone recommend a deodorant (not anti perspirant) that works ? Ideally one that keeps odor away and wicks up the moisture. If they possibly exist
I use Mitchum but I'd rather she stays on the deodorant route if possible.

I use salt of the earth - I rub it on wet armpits straight after my shower and allow it to dry. It works brilliantly for me - no odour at all. I find it much more effective than mitchum/sure etc. As others have said, it doesn't stop you sweating. I'm not too bothered about being a bit damp though - it's a natural body function.

cramptramp · 18/06/2025 20:48

I’m really sweaty and used to use Mitchum, but they changed the ingredients and it stopped working for me. As did Sure. Let your daughter use antiperspirant, it’s really important for a 12 year old. I currently use Nivea for men roll on and it works just fine.

Odaban is the best but extremely strong and can sting a lot.
Women's Mitchum Ultimate gel is excellent. Apply at night when you get into bed. No white marks and no need to wash off unlike Obaban which must be washed off in the morning.

chillycat · 18/06/2025 21:27

Mitchum roll on unscented. Unbeatable for me

Santina · 18/06/2025 22:06

My husband has developed allergy to antiperspirant. He is currently using Rituals natural deodorant and it is working fine. He has been motor racing in hot temperatures and has not had any issues with odor. It's not cheap, but worth a try.

Daygloboo · 18/06/2025 22:09

Weirdly I've never found the smell of arm sweat that awful......smells from other places that's a different matter

purpleflowersfordays · 18/06/2025 22:14

Sanex is fantastic. I don’t recommend Mitchum, I used it once and had BO 🤢

RampantIvy · 18/06/2025 22:18

When DD was at school she used Triple Dry. She was embarrassed about how much she perspired.

Why would you want your DD to be embarrassed? Just get her an antiperspirant that works.

hyggetyggedotorg · 18/06/2025 22:20

13 year old DD & I both use Mitchum. We both like it.

ElfAssassin · 18/06/2025 22:35

The Natural Deodorant Co balm (can buy on Amazon). The only natural deodorant that has ever worked for me.

zaicandy · 18/06/2025 22:36

Deodorant won’t stop sweat, she needs an antiperspirant. Deo only masks the smell.

zaicandy · 18/06/2025 22:36

TheSmallAssassin · 18/06/2025 17:15

I would let her use an antiperspirant if she would rather. Is there a reason why you don't want her to?

Presumably she’s read scare stores about it causing cancer

How old is she? My girls are particularly hairy and sweatty at 14 and 13 and since starting to get their pits waxed professionally they’re a lot less stinky. They both wear roll on Mitchum and then spray over the top. Both take wipes for after PE and have a tarts wash before reapplying. Bio washing powder seems to work much better at getting deodrant stains out of armpits on clothing in my opinion too.

That is way too young to get waxed.

ThisOldThang · 18/06/2025 22:44

If you genuinely need to stop sweating, nothing beats this stuff.

You need to be really careful. Only apply it after a shower before going to bed. Dry your skin with a hairdryer before applying it. It can react with sweat to give a chemical burn - as I discovered after applying it before attending an induction day for a new job.

If you're careful and use it daily for a few weeks it will cure sweating completely for 6+ months.

Thanks for your opinion in which way is it too young? I’d rather that than shaving myself wish my Mum had had the sense to teach me younger. It’s cleaner, safer and far more hygienic.

Cushionseams · 18/06/2025 23:12

I sometimes use mitchum, both spray and stick. I also like rockface deodorant, quite effective with a pleasant citrus smell. Only discovered today that it's a mens 😂

CurtainBabe · 18/06/2025 23:57

yes to using real soap not shower gel and then one of the salt sticks.

ChilliChoco · 19/06/2025 00:26

Thanks everyone. I am going to try everything that has been suggested. I would rather she took the deodorant route as there are less chemicals in them. A lot of her friends use deodorants or for one, nothing at all (I know for a fact she doesn't smell!). I got dd the Wild deodorant today. She has her pits waxed. I'm holding off the anti perspirant route if I can.

Can anyone recommend a natural product that stops odour and sweat?

MauraLabingi · 19/06/2025 08:31

You could try Trust. It's not an antiperspirant but it does seem to stop me sweating, don't know how. It took a couple of weeks before it worked though and I smelled worse initially as I guess it was sorting out the bacteria? I just washed twice a day for a while and it's settled now.
https://trustproducts.co.uk/products/trust-long-lasting-aluminum-free-extremely-effective-deodorant-for-underarm-odour-protection I got it on Amazon though.
It's a twice a week type one, put on at night, so I use an ordinary natural deodorant every morning as well because it feels wrong not to!

PeonyBlush10 · 19/06/2025 10:01

AKT deodorant balm. Great stuff

Nothing natural will stop sweat production. Only an anti persp will do this

FlappingMadly · 21/06/2025 08:23

Hope your dd gets on well with Wild. I've tried a lot of bio and Wild is the only one that works. I last used it yesterday morning and my pits are still good. I like that it's all recyclable too.
