Sandals for walking

I'm off to Japan this summer and I will be doing a lot of walking around the city. There will be some work type things as well as sightseeing. I'd like some sandals to wear - I usually wear trainers but I don't think I can get away with those at the work events. Can anyone recommend some sandals that will allow comfort while walking without crippling me?

I do have ballet flats but they really hurt my feel. I would like the comfort of trainers but with the style of something a little smarter.

Japan will be hot and humid - I'd like my feet to breathe a bit!

Sandals for practical walking always cause a bit of a storm on here - fingers crossed!
Maybe something from here: https://www.moshulu.co.uk/extra-comfy-sandals-c62. I’ve had sandals from them before and they use nice soft leather and have good supportive comfortable bases.

What will the rest of your wardrobe be like? And what sort of overall style are you going for?

I agree with the posts about Tevas. I have the ones with the thin strap in “tigers eye” (a dark nude). I did around 15k steps in them yesterday with no issues. They are great when the rest of the outfit is the main feature.

I also really like my Birkenstock Milano Big Buckles for a smarter geek chic look BUT not everyone’s feet work with Birkenstocks. These are the ones with the back strap so make them much better for walking miles.

I am very jealous that you get to go to Japan!

I have moved to fitflop sandals. I have the chunky sole ones and I live in them. My Birkenstocks and DM sandals are collecting dust since I bought these!

Josef Seibel shoes. I love some in the Rosalie range.

Keen are another good brand. Birkenstock are my favourites though unfortunately not great with rain.

I really like vionic sandals. So comfortable and I walked for hours around NY in them.

Are Teva good for plantar?

Hi
We’ve just come back from Japan and did a LOT of walking, I had the same issue as you. I ordered some Tevas but they weren’t comfortable, I’ve got a high instep and just couldn’t make the Velcro work without rubbing. My husband had them and said they were ok but not lots of padding in the sole so the ones he had at least ( standard black ones) weren’t amazing for him.

I bought some Woden sandals which were fab as they had a padded insole and kind of covers where the Velcro was so it didn’t rub, they’re also an eco friendly company if that matters to you. My friend had some fitflops which she found really comfortable too. I think it depends on your feet really but hope this helps!
Enjoy Japan, it’s amazing!

Merrell. I've a pair of leather sandals and have had plantar fasciitis. I found them comfortable and supportive.
