Bikini for weight loss!

BlumminKids · 13/06/2025 18:38

NEVER did I think that I would get into a bikini at 57!!
I have lost about 4.5 stone in the last year which I feel fab about. Its been bloody hard work and I know that I deserve to feel fab.
I'm going to Crete in August with my lovely daughter(24). Dreamed about this holiday for so many years and hope it is going to be the first of many Mum/Daughter trips. She is so lovely - inside and out and we are totally honest with each other
I bought a high waisted bikini in Sainsburys last week. 12 bottoms and 14 top. It fits me perfectly. The only problem is that my skin on my midriff is quite saggy and my bum has become square and droopy. She agreed that it didn't look fab despite my elation about getting into it! I'm grateful for her honesty.
I'm not sure what I'm asking here,
Exercise? Different bikini? Full costume? Or just accept that I'm 57 and my bikini days are over - which I was hoping not to hear as they've never begun as I've never actually worn one!!

I'd say well done. Enjoy wearing it and enjoy your holiday!

UpMyself · 13/06/2025 18:48

Wear it and enjoy it.

You can do exercises to strengthen your core muscles and to perk up your glutes ,if you want to.

I have a crinkly stomach from 2 stone weight loss at 50. I look good in clothes and feel good. So the last thing you'll catch me doing is wearing something on holiday that makes me feel less good than usual. So while there's no age, body size, shape or appearance that is 'too' anything for a bikini if you feel good in it, there's no point wearing one for the sake of it if you'd feel better in a one piece.

persisted · 13/06/2025 18:59

Wear the bikini and have a lovely time, you won't be the only one.
No-one will be looking at you and picking out flaws the way you do.

TheChosenTwo · 13/06/2025 19:01

Wear it anyway. I’m in a similar position, have a bit of a crinkly stomach and wore my bikini with pride on the beach on holiday recently. I felt fucking amazing. Yeah I would imagine there were more ‘body beautiful’ people on the beach than me with a more toned arse and perkier boobs - so what! Make your peace with the fact that there will always be someone in better condition and accept your weight loss for exactly what it is - much better for your health!! And congrats 🥳

BlumminKids · 13/06/2025 20:04

Thanks everyone. Feel much more accepting of myself now x👙

Believe me, no one will be paying any attention to what you’re wearing. Wear it with pride!

willowstar · 14/06/2025 04:02

I too lost loads of weight and look good with clothes on but I feel just awful because of the loose skin everywhere.

I would love to wear a bikini but I don't have the confident because of the loose skin on my midriff and bum. I have bought this

Having said that, if I saw you wearing yours and you had loose skin I would think you look great and good for you and it might inspire me! I am 51.

measureofmydreams · 14/06/2025 05:04

Wear the bikini and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. There will be all shapes and sizes on the beach and by the pool. I'm 63, have a lived in body, and still wear a bikini. I think most people are too self absorbed to notice. Most importantly have a great time!

PrincessOfPreschool · 14/06/2025 05:45

I bought a bikini a couple of years ago and I was a size 16. I bought it because I decided not to give one. I actually looked better in it than my swimsuit. And it felt so much nicer to swim in (love the feeling of the sea on my skin). I don't think anyone at all will be looking at you or judging. I've certainly never looked at anyone and thought, "Ooh their skin is a bit saggy for a bikini" (I may have thought: that bikini is a bit risqué to wear with teenage children!). I've lost weight and I'm really saggy now but going to a Spanish area of Spain and no doubt even the largest Grandmas will be bikini clad.

thornbury · 14/06/2025 05:46

I'm also 57 and wear bikinis, not swimsuits. I like the fold over top briefs that Next and M&S often do in a print pattern as I find that the most flattering style, and a plain high waist brief is much less so.

Wear what you like!

DrJump · 14/06/2025 05:49

In 45 and have crinkly midriff having lost around half my body weight. I have a two piece which I wear quite regularly. I just embrace the bumps. My favorite long leg one piece I wear less often as it squishes my tummy flat but sort of shoots it round the back :(

marmiteloversunite · 14/06/2025 06:09

I’m 55 and have lost weight recently too. I have also had a double mastectomy and live flat after breast cancer. I find swimwear really hard to buy and now only wear big pants and bikini tops. I probably look a bit odd but I am just happy to be out the other side of treatment and to be having a holiday.

I say wear the bikini and have fun.

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 14/06/2025 06:46

Wear the bikini!

But also start strength training with weights. Just to keep strong. You will start to see more definition.

troppibambini6 · 14/06/2025 08:08

I’ve also recently lost 4.5 stone and was really looking forward to getting back in a bikini. I tried one on and like you was a bit disappointed.
We also went to Crete a couple of weeks ago. I took a couple of one pieces, two tankinis and a black bikini with decent bottoms as our room had a private pool so thought I would maybe wear it there.
First day I wore my tankini. I looked around at all the different body shapes, bigger women, smaller women, saggy women, perky women and nobody cared. Everyone was just having fun with their kids and enjoying the sun.
My crinkly tummy was out for the rest of the holiday. My only regret was that I didn’t take another bikini!!

isitme111 · 14/06/2025 17:50

Well done on losing 4.5 stone that's amazing. Wear the bikini you could also wear a sarong if it makes you feel more confident. Have a lovely time.

holidayfever2024 · 14/06/2025 18:16

Wear the bikini ! I lost 3.5 stone a few years ago and felt great by the pool then had a hysterectomy and have gained about 10 lbs back my stomach is awful with the post op pouch effect I hate it , but last summer I thought f it I am still wearing the bikini 👙 and I didn’t regret it at all! Took a one piece and didn’t wear it once . I think what helped was realising no one else cares and I told myself , it’s not bad for someone in their fifties ! We all deserve to feel the sunshine on our bellies !
life’s too short to be so constrained , well done on the weight loss.
What I can add is it might be worth shopping around - my go to is pour moi , so many styles to choose from !

Blueberrycake12 · 14/06/2025 19:46

Unfortunately weight loss is never enough. You may weigh less and be smaller but without exercise and toning, your body will never look as you want it to!

BlumminKids · 29/06/2025 13:02

I re bought the bikini and also got another. Thanks ladies x

So pleased. Have a lovely holiday!

YourWinter · 29/06/2025 20:07

I lost 1.5 stone quite quickly and have loose crepey skin around my tummy and arms. At 69 I have no inclination to wear a bikini but in Rhodes recently plenty of women around the pool were at least in their 60s or 70s, all shapes and sizes, and it was absolutely fine!

Oceangrey · 29/06/2025 22:57

I took swimsuits to Portugal last year and felt too covered up as everyone was in bikinis no matter what shape. Bought a bikini while out there!
