Gel vs Biab nails?

I only ever get get nails - never had biab done.

I go through phrases where I have gel nails back to back for a couple of months but my nails end up getting so weak and breaking even with the gel on.

Are biab nails a lot stronger? I know they’re supposed to be better for your nails as well and I just don’t want my nails to start chipping.

BIAB is just a different type of gel polish really. Some people will tell you it will strengthen your nails but all it does is cover them - just like gel does.

If your nails are weak or damaged from the gel, the only thing you can do is let them grow out and look after them in the meantime. I recommend her all the time, but The Salon Life on YouTube is amazing.

I’ve recently switched from gel to biab (December).

I have an autoimmune issue and a vertical split in my nail that won’t grow out.

I find biab is very thick compared to gel which I don’t particularly like. I also (and this is just where I get mine done!) like to have my nails short and my nail tech basically always tells me the “point”of biab is to get more length.

The other thing I’m not keen on is that the UV lamp seems to be used more for biab (again it could be the technique for the place I go).

On the plus side I get a good month from each manicure. No chipping etc, and it’s just the re growth that means it’s time for redoing.

As I’m still ok for just getting infills at the moment I’m sticking with them but I think I will probably go back to gel at some point because of the thickness issue.

I will say though I am a boring nail person - so not one for designs, glitter or anything fancy. Short, rounded one colour.

I have been getting BIAB on my nails since October last year. Since the start of October, I've had three nails break, all from bashing them on things. I don't grow my nails very long, maybe 0.5cm beyond the end of my finger, but they feel long to me. I love them, I have chrome, cats-eye, glass effect, everything. I like having decent nails at last!
