Option 1

Option 2

Which dress for a black tie do in a large hotel in central London for company annual summer party? Age 52, size 14, menopausal tummy.

Or something else entirely?

I like option 2 best. The navy and gold is softer and more suitable for summer than the black. I also think it looks more expensive. Good choice!

PanderBare · 11/06/2025 16:20

it depends on what the something else is. Smile Of the 2, option 1.

HatesHorsesLovesShein · 11/06/2025 16:22

I like one better and I think one looks more expensive than two.

Complet · 11/06/2025 16:23

I don’t like number one at all. It looks very cheap, and I don’t think it will be flattering. You’ll get much more wear out of option 2.

LoafofSellotape · 11/06/2025 16:23

2

SPSN · 11/06/2025 16:23

Option 2

MrsMitford3 · 11/06/2025 16:25

I don't really love either but I also don't think 2 is very black tie-more day dress-ish

Hazeltwig · 11/06/2025 16:29

Pedantry alert! The people in option 2 don't know how to spell "fuchsia". Jolie Moi should be ashamed of themselves!

PanderBare · 11/06/2025 16:34

LycheeFizz · 11/06/2025 16:40

I thought option 1 looked cheap. Option 2 is lovely, but is it smart enough?

DuaNinja · 11/06/2025 16:51

Thanks all, I will order 2 and see what I think. This is for a do with over 500 people in the depths of a hotel where, apart from 10 minutes of mingling in a foyer, no-one will even notice what anyone is wearing as they will be full of booze and dancing 😀

Its actually more black tie / cocktail dress that I need anyway.

Think I prefer 2, looks smart enough (and I could see more uses for it, so you'd get your moneys worth!!LOL).
They both look like they would be a flattering fit though, good choices!😃

pictoosh · 11/06/2025 17:29

I prefer the first dress.

Doggymummar · 11/06/2025 17:29

I don't think either are suitable for black tie personally

SammyScrounge · 11/06/2025 17:32

I preferred option 1.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 11/06/2025 17:39

I don't like either (angel sleeves and dipped hems, especially where the print on the outer face shows through the dip because it's not lined/thin material) but either is suitable for the event.

1 is the better of the 2, mainly because there's not the same amount of dipped hem.

ERthree · 11/06/2025 17:53
  1. 1 looks messy and cheap.
PlayDoh135 · 11/06/2025 18:26

Neither of them looks right for black tie event. If I had to choose, the 1st, but really I choose none of them.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 11/06/2025 18:28

Not appropriate for a black tie event, they’re both polyester which which be hot and sweaty

Lotsofsnacks · 11/06/2025 18:52

Neither are really black tie but the second one if I had to pick. I think there are nicer dresses for a posh event, in that style, that look more premium (not necessarily much more expensive than these either)

AmyDuPlantier · 11/06/2025 19:11

Option 1 definitely. 2 looks like workwear.

DuaNinja · 11/06/2025 19:23

Some interesting comments, I definitely wouldn't wear anything remotely like these dresses to work.
