Beach/Pool cover ups

I need help, we have an AI beach holiday every year and I always feel like I miss the mark with my pool cover up and I don't know why. What can I take that I can pop over my bikini to go for lunch etc, that looks swish and stylish. I always feel like I'm a mess compared to others

If you don’t mind spending a bit more try One Season Australia. They are absolutely gorgeous - the only ones I buy now. They are in lovely soft cotton or viscose. When googling remember to put One Season Australia- uk stockists in the search. I buy a new one or two each year and love them. I’ll try to link the one I bought this year.

TutTutTutSigh · 12/06/2025 06:53

This year I've seen lots of crochet or linen shorts and shirts sets, wide leg beach pants, crochet dresses, oversize shirts.

H&M do really good linen mix pull on shorts, I have 4 pairs and they are comfy enough for the pool with a shirt or can be worn out and about.

Another great brand for resort wear is Aspiga. Both Aspiga and One Season are sometimes on Vinted. I’ve just bought a gorgeous Aspiga dress on there.

Im a similar shape to you, op. Size 14, hourglass with chunky legs! I love the idea of an oversized linen shirt but it does not suit me....it emphasises my legs and skims over my best bits; chest and waist! I find a one piece, fitted , maxi, jersey vest type dress suits best or a long kaftan with plunging neckline. I can't find any examples to show but Monsoon often have some suitable pieces.

This! I am a similar shape and although I love the look of an oversized linen shirt, I don’t think it’s flattering on chunky legs when they are the only thing out. Over the years I’ve amassed a collection of maxi shirt dresses for this purpose and think they always look chic over swimwear, can wear open or closed. Some of mine are poplin striped cotton but I also like this linen one from H&M www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1282345003.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=mk_gb%7Cln_eng%7Cpl_google%7Cct_fm%7Cbu_ladies%7Ckt_gen%7Cbg_performance%7Ccs_fmax%7Cadt_all%7Csp_med%7Cpi_gbg06anu3aa214&utm_term=&hier_id=go_cmp-21336737492_adg-_ad-__dev-m_ext-_prd-en-1282345003004_sig-EAIaIQobChMImorl0bHrjQMV74lQBh1uGhb8EAQYCyABEgL-w_D_BwE&utm_source=Google&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21330519522&gbraid=0AAAAADvrmzRTVdADawvWXuiuyBlCU0DBj&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImorl0bHrjQMV74lQBh1uGhb8EAQYCyABEgL-w_D_BwE

Also sarongs are suddenly everywhere again and are great on a more bottom heavy figure. Really pretty ones from Away That Day and Monday Swimwear that look big enough to give decent coverage and could be tied as a dress as well.

sansou · 12/06/2025 09:03

Go and visit TKMaxx. I bought a Nip & Tuck swimsuit plus a pretty Lara Ethics coverup last month. It all looks better in RL than the online pictures btw.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/06/2025 11:15

I've never understood the need for these things. Just have a sun dress that can be pulled on and off quickly.

HotHotChilli · 12/06/2025 11:49

I wear a lot of cover ups etc. as I live in the tropics so have plenty! I am lucky I can buy them local at great prices for good quality linen/cotton/mix

Dont get anything thats not a natural fabric, lots look nice but are poly/viscose etc. and you will feel sweaty. I am shocked by some of the prices in the UK for made made fabric for beach wear.

I prefer a button up long line cover up, that way you can use it as a cover up for beach or pool or leave it open with a t/shirt or whatever underneath maybe of an evening or out and about so it works in your wardrobe more. One of my favourites is a one from Tesco of all places, cotton brodie anglaise, white, a looser fit but comes with a belt, goes with everything and covers a multitude of sins with long sleeves than can be rolled up. See if I can find a pic.

TKMaxx had some lovely Australian branded cover ups, bright colours lots of lovely patterns (I never shy away from colour or pattern) have a look on line, but they do sell out quickly.

No advice OP but couldn’t agree more - I completely miss the mark with cover up every single year.

BadSkiingMum · 12/06/2025 12:05

Ah you see I think it depends on what you’re covering up and why.

If you are someone who tans easily and is quite body-confident but just want to cover up your boobs in front of the cafe waiters then a floaty cover-up with holes, cold-shoulders or lace bits looks great.

If you’re a day-glo shade of pale and need to minimise sun exposure or suffer the consequences that night then I think a fairly dense-weave cotton knee length, long sleeve kaftan is the way to go. Sometimes with a pair of light jersey cycling shorts underneath.

I am in the latter camp and have several nice Boden and John Lewis kaftans, bought from Ebay. I wear them bra-less on the way back from the pool and no one seems to mind!

laclochette · 12/06/2025 16:32

I have absolutely loads of cotton kaftans which are super light, floaty, comfy and chic in that sort of swanning around a Mediterranean island vibe. I get them from Etsy! This shop mostly:

laclochette · 12/06/2025 16:36

Oh and this is a bit more eccentric but I keep an eye out for Victorian cotton night shirts and often buy and wear those as beach coverups!

Finally if you want to treat yourself this brand does the most stunning chic beach coverups I know:

DeSoleil · 12/06/2025 17:15

Elizabeth Hurley has some nice beach shirts, I’ve got a white one and a pinky peach one.

Buckis · 12/06/2025 19:54

I think this is flattering for a larger chest. https://www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/p/xx740?optionSize=12%2F14
and looks very elegant.

Djmaggie · 12/06/2025 20:37

i have this from pour moi. It’s nice & cool, easy to throw on and flattering.

I’m a similar age to you and wear a 34G. Most cover-ups just drape over my chest and are unflattering. I decided to spend more this year than usual and went for this one in the black and it’s the first time I didn’t feel as though I was wearing a tent. I’ve only just noticed they do it in royal blue and I’ve just ordered one!

I'm glad it's not just me. I can't figure out where I go wrong, everyone else just seems to look more put together and I look a mess. 🤣
