Wedding accessories help!

Hello stylish ones! I’m off to a summer wedding soon.
I have lovely mid length Crea dress in dark blue, very comfy, discreet, stylish but understated so probably not very summer wedding I guess.
Instead of splashing out on a dress I’m thinking of a few accessories, shawl, sandals, hat that kind of thing would wear again. I don’t often go to a wedding. Thinking of red sandals not too high, I have bright silk scarfs, and something for my shoulders.
Any ideas/stockists/fashion wisdom share would be fabulous. Thanks!

Do you have a pic of the dress?

BillytheMountain · 10/06/2025 12:30

I can’t find one online I’ll try to upload one

It’s just a very simple dress with a front pleat that hides fat tum so well! I’m slimish build apart from the tum thing.

A nice pair of shoes, matching bag and maybe a shrug or wrap in a bright colour, and you're good to go, OP.
Edited, forgot to say, my go to shop would be Accessorise, and try also, Oliver Bonas.

BillytheMountain · 10/06/2025 12:52

Thanks @Saltedcarameltiramisucheesecake do you think red would work? Any stockist suggestions?

Personally, I wouldn't choose red, it seems from the magazines ive seen that bright blue is trending at the moment. Or yellow maybe would look more summery? 🤔

Mulledjuice · 10/06/2025 13:02

Ooh it's a very dark blue - appears black or charcoal to me in the photos.

Without being confident that im seeing the colour of your dress correctly, baby blue or buttery yellow would be a great accent colour but don't do everything in that colour. Use a pattern or print or metal or texture for at least one of the items.

BillytheMountain · 10/06/2025 13:27

Pics are bit deceptive, it is dark blue.

Oh yes. Like the buttery yellow and bright blue and texture suggestions. Do you have any stockists in mind tomorrow help envisage this?

Any shoe or shrug or wrap links?

Thinking both the buttery yellow or bright blue works for me.

And hats too! If it’s what I can wear again even better.

I'd like to see a swatch of cerise pink with that dress. Then a beautiful silky wrap/shawl with a summery pattern that includes cerise and as near as possible the dark blue of the dress. Dark blue shoes, cerise clutch or other small bag. No need for a hat, unless you want to! I'm no good at finding examples, I just picture things in my head!

It is a lovely dress. I think by dressing it up with all the things you are thinking of it is going to look completely wrong and shapeless. Definitely no shrug or wrap. I would choose some elegant shoes in a yellow or orange and a clutch bag with the dress and shoe colour in the pattern. Plain silver or gold jewellery. Go for class not tat. You will look fabulous

BillytheMountain · 11/06/2025 13:40

That’s interesting @JillMW i will explore this idea, live orange too.
I need something for my shoulders though, it’s British summer time so expecting a chill.
Whats your thoughts on hats?

Jacket not shrug or wrap

PomeloOud · 11/06/2025 18:55

This dress will look lovely with minimal ‘stuff’. Resist the urge to over accessorise.

I’d wear Esska sandals in a clashing colour. I have a few of the Charlie style in different colours. I definitely would not fuss about with wraps or shawls or fussiness. You’d risk looking like a bag of washing. And never match your bag to your shoes.

At any wedding I’ve been to over the last 3 years I’ve noticed only old ladies wear hats and (shudder) fascinators.

Mid Heel Sandals

Esska’s mid heel sandals bring understated elegance to every step. With clean lines and thoughtful craftsmanship, they offer a chic, comfortable option for those seeking style that lasts all day.

I'm assuming the dress looks better on, I'm struggling to visualise it on the hanger. I agree with @JillMW to step away from the shrug, and keep it simple. No hat, good hair, jacket not wrap. Simple jewellery, nice makeup. Can't comment on shoes without seeing the dress on, but Esskas would probably work.

BillytheMountain · 12/06/2025 17:55

that’s great feedback. I’ll have think about summer jackets. Really like the Esska sandals, thanks for link!
