Nice restaurant in a place where people like to dress up

Off to a ‘nice’ restaurant for dinner soon, in a place where people like to get dolled up. I have lots of dresses and some heeled sandals that are comfortable and I can walk in, so there’s no real reason to buy anything new.

However, I also need some new smartish black trousers for work and I was wondering if there’s any way I could combine sandals, trousers and a new top as I have very few ‘nice’ tops in my wardrobe.

I’m thinking maybe a crochet waistcoat or top in cream? Has anybody seen any nice ones?

And any links to good, tailored black trousers, maybe linen mix, would be brilliant. Not too wide and need petite.

Thanks!

No crochet, but tried this on yesterday and am considering. I think it's a bit more timeless/less twee than crochet, something that I would get a lot of wear out of as it will go with pretty much every kind of bottom. The neckline can also be tucked to give a v-neck

Thanks, both. I've actually got those M&S trousers already for work, funnily enough. I think I want linen or a linen mix though, for a more summery feel, but not the slouchy elasticated waist ones that are everywhere. I looked in M&S in store recently, but they had very few pairs of trousers in my size and online orders are still down, frustratingly.

Those tops are both nice but wouldn't suit me. I think I want something a bit crochet-ish or lace-ish maybe.

I think pretty/twee is the vibe I'm fancying, maybe!

I’m too fat for that, sadly. I wondered about a waistcoat because I could pop a fitted black T-shirt underneath it.
