Hello lovely people in my phone, I’m looking for a dress and thought you might be able to help! Dress needed for family wedding in a smart hotel. What I need:

I’m 5’3 and busty size 18, menopausal
Prefer long sleeves
I’m a “winter” in terms of colouring
Non creasy fabric that will survive a car journey
Budget up to £100
Bonus points for something not obviously high street

Thank you thank you thank you

Thank you, I have a Joanie dress which I do like, in fact it’s my fall back if I can’t find anything.

I’m afraid I’m not so keen on the current offerings. So many of the dresses around now look like they are made for little girls not 58 year old women.

I liked this one but it’s out of my budget - I could stretch it a bit but not that much.

Raven is based on our Novara dress, but we've added long sleeves and delicate lace trims. The mixed prints are a RIXO signature and the mother-of-pearl buttons give such an elegant finish.

Have a look at the Copper and Black collection by Fat Face. Some lovely items in the sale. This dress is my favourite and an absolute bargain! https://www.fatface.com/style/su371922/e50624#e50624

Have you considered not doing the usual floral wedding guest dress? Maybe a classic wrap dress in a burnt orange or burgundy and then use good accessories, nice shoes and statement jewelry to make it special.

We tend to go floral and floaty for weddings but the last one I went someone was there with a plain navy blue dress with gorgeous neutral bag, shoes and a statement necklace, she looked really good, she was around your proportions too.

@GrumpySparkler thank you, that's a lovely dress but not sure the high neck would flatter my big boobs.

@jackstini thank you so much - have ordered the navy monsoon one.

@MyNewNewlife absolutely, would love to have something different to the usual floral dress but there are not many about it seems! Also would like to avoid lots of frills/layers as they just add bulk.

I think that dress is lovely. Although it is a bit over your budget it is a dress you will be able to wear many times in almost any setting. The colour will be fine all year round too, whereas pastels, lighter colours tend to look better only in the summer

Phase eight have some nice long sleeve maxi dresses in on sale. I shopped for my sister who was MOB last year from there. Not usually a brand I go to but for weddings and races etc they have a good selection.

lurchermummy · 08/06/2025 09:51

@Lurkingandlearning yes it is lovely but I could not justify over £300 on a dress sadly

@Peaceandquietandacuppa I do like that but my other Joanie dress was way too long for me and also the sleeves were really long too, made for a giantess! I paid to have it altered but it was a bit of a pain.

@Ophy83 thanks they are pretty but I’m not sure about the flutter sleeves - prefer to cover my elbows - but I might order one to try.
