These shorts

I have recently lost almost five and a half stone and am eyeing up some shorts to wear on holiday later in the year, but I keep trying them on, then chickening out and not buying them. I have never worn shorts in my adult life because of always feeling too fat for them and if I'm being honest, I still don't like the way my thighs look in them. But knee-length shorts look really rubbish on me, so it's either this sort of length or none at all, and I'll simply stick with my wide-leg linen trousers. What is people's honest opinion on these two pairs? Both from H&M.

I think the black ankle socks really set it off well 😀😀😀

Seriously though, well done for losing all that weight. The shorts are absolutely fine but I'm not sure about the pleat on the left one
I wonder if shorts without pleats at the top would be good

Fannyy · 07/06/2025 15:06

And there's nothing remarkable about your thighs so get that out of your head. It's just the style of the short.

ShaunaSadeki · 07/06/2025 15:06

Your legs look great, so don’t worry on that front

Branleuse · 07/06/2025 15:07

I really like the second pair on you.
Your legs look good in them

newrubylane · 07/06/2025 15:08

The shorts look great, as do your legs.

sauvignonplonk1 · 07/06/2025 15:10

You look amazing 🤩

Slightlyconfusedowl · 07/06/2025 15:11

Blimey, they look great- I really wish my legs looked as good as yours x

I think you aren’t seeing what everyone else is seeing, which I understand is common when you lose a lot of weight. You look great, fabulous in fact! Wear the shorts and be bloody proud!!!

CatAsstrophe · 07/06/2025 15:14

Congratulations on your weight loss! The shorts look fine, and you have great legs.

Oh for the return of the laugh reaction! I thought about taking them off but didn't want to stand on the mucky changing room floor in my bare feet!

The right ones are nice
Left ones aren't as nice imo

You look great 👍

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 07/06/2025 18:07

I don't think the ones on the left actually had a pleat, there was just a crease that would iron out. I'm surprised people liked the others better, as I thought they made my hips look slightly wider, but they were also the cheaper option so that's a win.

Wow you look fab and I’d wear short things all the time with legs like those! I envy your knees - mine look like the Mitchell brothers.

Wow, congrats on your weight loss. You don’t look like you’ve lost 5 stone, as in, you look quite fit and toned. Did you do it whilst working out too?

You look amazing. The shorts look great. They are flattering and a good length. There’s NO reason for you not to wear shorts.

However, you deserve better. The shape is great, they look good on you. The colour - no! They look like you are going on a safari.

Have a look at linen shorts, or similar shorts in a nicer colour. Maybe cream or white or a pinstripe. I’ve gorgeous linen pleated shorts from Boden.

You deserve a fabulous pair of shirts. You really do.

@HelpMeDoTheMaths that's very kind of you to say. In truth I've done very little exercise, but I do have quite big quads and biceps that I haven't earned at all. Don't know why, I've just always had them. I have a fair bit of loose skin on my stomach and the tops of my inner thighs that I'm careful to cover up though.

I'm afraid I quite like the safari look for a holiday! Unfussy and practical appeals to me and I'm not too keen on lighter colours next to my pale skin, but I could look at something in ecru, I suppose. I will check Boden out as I do like linen.
