Have lost 8lbs since March. THATS IT. I'm not losing it gaining, I'm just maintaining. At the moment , that's ok for me ( I have fibromyalgia) Have started walking regularly and thought I was going ok , legs toning up. BUT, I've just received some walking trousers I bought from vinted, size 18, my current size ( or so I thought as everything else I wear is an 18). BUT, I can't do them up, no where near , I've just about got them up my things and most of my bottom fits in bit that's it!!!! Feel disheartened. Perhaps I'll just go back to eating bread again ( love it with loads of butter and jam and a cup of tea sets me up for the day) instead of cornflakes. Feeling like a lardass

Google indicates that they might be a size 16. Without knowing your actual measurements it's impossible to say.

SweetDarling · 04/06/2025 02:27

Regardless of what size you are, you have still lost 8lb and are fitter than you were. Keep going.

Netaporter · 04/06/2025 03:05

I agree - keep going on the weight loss journey. More than half a stone off is a great effort!! Do you know your TDEE/BMR? It can be lower than you think - especially as we get older. My BMR is less than 1400 so if I was very sedentary it would be very difficult to get into a calorie deficit every week to the point where I could lose weight. A pound of fat is a 3500calories deficit.

On the clothes front, your rational brain knows that sizing is not standard from brand to brand so don’t let one pair of trousers undo all of that effort and self sabotage your weight loss result.

Walking trousers are the work of the devil when it comes to fitting

mrschocolatte · 04/06/2025 05:16

I’ve been in your shoes many times. It’s so disheartening when this happens but somehow you have to dig deep and carry on with your plan. The way I used to deal with this kind of setback, I would tell myself ‘just stick this out for today and see how you feel in the morning’. And then in the morning, I would usually feel a little better and a bit more positive so I would tell myself the same thing again and so on and so on. Looking at this journey you are on in its entirety, when you feel low, is overwhelming. So take baby steps instead and just take it day by day until the urge passes. You’ve done brilliantly to get to this point. So you know you have the determination and resolve to do this. Good luck!

Simplegazette · 04/06/2025 05:46

My lesson learnt is never buy walking trousers from Decathlon - they are so small around the waist and bum it's a joke, definitely something up with their sizing.

Nightshadesdown · 04/06/2025 05:51

Decathlon are tiny don't get disheartened.

Gastropod · 04/06/2025 05:54

Décathlon is French, their sizes are teeny weeny! I can never fit into my usual size there.

French brands often size small. (Once I went into a French shop asking for a size 12 (40) skirt and the lady replied “Mais non Madame, we don’t make them that big!”)
So I wouldn’t feel too bad. Plus, every pair of walking trousers I ever tried on was cut really weirdly.

Catlord · 04/06/2025 05:57

I've had to gain and lose weight thanks many times over the years thanks to meds. You're going in the right direction. 8lb is a substantial loss. Keep going and don't worry about what one label says. They'll fit better in a few weeks.

Highlighta · 04/06/2025 06:00

Decathlon clothing is notoriously small. Everthing I have from there I have sized up on.

Please don't let this item of clothing dishearten you.

JustMyView13 · 04/06/2025 06:19

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve ordered the same item from somewhere, in multiple colours, only for them all to fit differently. Life has taught me not to allow a label to dictate how I feel about myself.

The scales, your measurements (on a tape measure) and progress pictures won’t be lying. Your new gym bottoms probably are.

Agree - I know how easy it is to compare yourself to other people but progress is progress. Focus on health and learning how to speak more kindly to yourself. You're doing so great op x

Comedycook · 04/06/2025 11:19

I have bottoms in my wardrobe that range from a size 12 to a size 18 and I wear them all.

MauraLabingi · 04/06/2025 11:39

Decathlon's own website says that they consider French size 46 (like your trousers) to be UK size 16.

Even if they were an 18 though doesn't mean you should stop losing weight - that's nuts! I have clothes two sizes lower than my actual size and a size higher too. Sizing is bananas.

thedevilinablackdress · 04/06/2025 11:49

Clothes should fit you, not the other way round. Clothes sizing and cut are extremely variable regardless of what the label says. DO NOT give this another thought.

zenae · 04/06/2025 11:50

I only buy backpacks from Decathlon! They have a great range. Clothing is sized for Mesdames et Messieurs en France so I swerve like the plague.

Don't give up, try Trespass, Regatta etc. for more appropriate sizing in walking gear.

NewsdeskJC · 04/06/2025 13:20

There's a reason they are on Vinted!
I'm a 14/16 due to my apple shape. Can't tell you how often I've bought trousers in a 16 that won't go round my waist, even though in many brands I am a 14 or a 16.

Lookwhoseinsideagain · 04/06/2025 13:24

Sizing of women's clothing is so inconsistent. I'm usually a size 8-10, but I'm currently wearing a pair of jeans that are a size 14 - and slightly snug!

When I order online I usually order a few sizes (obviously not an option on vinted).

FusionChefGeoff · 04/06/2025 13:47

If buying from vinted, I always ask for actual measurements and compare against a similar item I own and that fits. So widest part of trousers, crotch to waist then waists

kittykarate · 04/06/2025 14:02

I am not Decathlon own brand clothing sized!

For walking trousers I like Craghoppers kiwi pro, they are a predictable fit, have a slight stretch. They are not too apple shaped. If you want apple shaped walking trousers, I think Regatta are a better brand.
